      TOP 10 REASONS TO
SHOP LOCAL

#1. Keep money in the neighbourhood.

A recent study showed that locally owned, independent businesses put 70% more money back into the local community than chain stores, per square foot occupied. A space filled with a local business rather than a chain puts more dollars back in your neighbourhood.

#2. Embrace what makes us different.

Toronto is a city of neighbourhoods. Where we shop, where we eat and hang out - all of it makes our neighbourhoods home. Chain businesses change the character of our neighbourhoods. If we wanted to live someplace that looked like everywhere else, we wouldn't be living in Toronto.

#3. Get better service.

In a local business, you know the person behind the counter, and they know you. They have a deep understanding of the products they're selling, and they take time to serve their customers.

#4. Create and keep good jobs.

Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally, and small businesses account for the vast majority of job growth. Locally owned businesses are far less likely to pull up stakes and move operations to another city or country, taking their jobs with them.

#5. Promote competition & diversity.

A multitude of small businesses, each selecting products based on the needs of their local customers and not on a national sales plan, guarantees a much broader range of product choices.

#6. Help out the environment.

Locally owned businesses can make more local purchases, requiring less transportation, and they generally set up shop in commercial corridors rather than developing on the fringe. This means less sprawl, c

ongestion, habitat loss, and pollution.

#7. Support community groups.

Nonprofits receive an average of 350% more support from local business owners than they do from non-locally owned businesses.

#8. Put your taxes to good use.

Local businesses in neighbourhoods need comparatively less infrastructure investment and make more efficient use of public services as compared to nationally owned stores entering the community.

#9. Vote with your dollars.

Studies show that if each household in Toronto redirects just $100 of planned holiday spending from chain stores to locally owned merchants, the local economic impact could exceed $25 million.

#10. Invest in the community.

Local businesses are often owned by people who live here, work here, and are invested in the community with much more than just their dollars.

NEW INITIATIVE HELPS MAKE OUR COMMUNITIES SAFER

GenesisXD, an experience design studio, is the creative force behind KLINK Coffee.  KLINK™ makes communities safer and families stronger by providing jobs and training for people returning home from prison.  The KLINK brand is roasted by Reunion Island Coffee.  KLINK beans, K-cups and pre-ground portion packs are available for purchase online thr ough the retailer Cultured Coffee Bean.  Caterers, coffee shops and restaurants are able to work directly with KLINK for any bulk delivery needed for their business.

This project began when GenesisXD was asked by St. Leonard's Society of Toronto to help launch its coffee brand.  St. Leonard's is a charity that operates halfway houses for people coming out of prison.  We quickly saw that St. Leonard's needed more than a brand and so we developed KLINK's business model and total experience ranging from website to marketing communications and including the application of social media.

GenesisXD creates experiences that invite engagement and create value.

KEEP YOURSELF HEALTHY THIS FLU SEASON

During the flu season it is extra important to keep your immune system naturally strong.  This includes having a healthy balanced diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, plenty of daily aerobic exercise as well as having your spine adjusted regularly.  The chiropractic adjustment removes the interference to the nervous system caused by stress, poor posture and injury, and thus allows the body to express health naturally.

Call us to today to schedule your

immune-boosting adjustment.

SHOP LOCAL ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30
AND SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES!

ARE YOU A LOCAL SHOPPER?

We are proud to announce we are participating in SHOP THE NEIGHBOURHOOD, an initiative of the Yellow Pages Group (YPG) to raise awareness of the important role local businesses play in our communities and to encourage local shopping.

On Saturday, November 30, shoppers will be invited to shop their local neighbourhoods and show their support for small businesses by taking advantage of exclusive event-day savings and deals.  Shop The Neighbourhood kicks off the busiest shopping period of the year while being sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  These two shopping holidays often drive shoppers across the border or online.  Supporting local businesses helps challenge these approaches to shopping while contributing to a vibrant and economically strong community.  Show your support for local businesses and make a local purchase on November 30!  Whether you are a business owner or a supporting shopper, please get involved with this local initiative and make a local purchase!
