QUEEN'S QUAY TERMINAL CIGARETTE WASTE BRIGADE

Queen's Quay Terminal and Tourism Toronto's EcoTO team are introducing a unique recycling program from TerraCycle which will accept waste products you are unable to recycle at home.

Beginning in April, this new recycling initiative will allow them to collect cigarette waste from the building's exterior ashtrays, which will then be recycled and turned into various products like plastic pallets.

For more information on this green initiative contact the Queen's Quay Terminal Management Office at 416-203-3269.

PLAN FOR A SUCCESSFUL RECOVERY
FROM HIP OR KNEE SURGERY

With shorter hospital stays and reduced access to rehab hospitals, patients need a strategy to manage their safe recovery.

Ices Research shows that being treated in higher spending hospitals, (those with higher- volume teaching or community hospitals and specialist attending physicians) were associated with better survival, and lower re-admission.

OHIP saves thousands of dollars by skipping stays in rehab hospitals and sending you home for your recovery. Hiring a caregiver with experience caring for post operative orthopaedic patients goes a long way to preventing re-admission.

Skilled pain management includes assessment of prescribed medication effectiveness. Not all medications work for everyone. Taking pills as prescribed, positioning, application of ice packs and other proven techniques are all part of ensuring comfort. Having guidance following prescribed exercises and help with activities of daily living are all important for a smooth recovery.

Call Custom Comfort Care for more ideas to prepare for your surgery or to book skilled in-home nursing care to ensure peace of mind.

SPRING INTO ART THIS APRIL AT

HARBOURFRONT CENTRE

It's time to shed your winter wardrobe and spring into art this April at Harbourfront Centre.

Me So You So Me (April 15 - 18) and This is a Costume Drama (April 29 -May 2) continue the 2015 season of World Stage. Me So You So Me is manage-influenced slapstick that transcends the limitations of the girl-boy duet. The world premiere of This Is a Costume Drama reveals how we transform, how we put on masks and how we celebrate - all while turning the theatre into a landscape built for graphic spectacle.

In between the two World Stage performances is HATCH, Harbourfront Centre's annual performing arts residency programme. It's your chance to experience some of the most innovative and original voices Toronto has to offer.

Finally, NextSteps stacks the latter half of April with four of the very best performances in Canadian dance. From Ballet Creole to Bageshree Vaze, and Esmeralda Enrique to CanAsian Dance, Harbourfront Centre NextSteps series is sure to add a spring to your step.

Winter is over - warm up with art his spring!

OPTIMAL HEALTH WITH HARBOURFRONT CHIROPRACTIC

Has winter left you feeling tense, aching and tired? Do your muscles feel as though they are taut bands that won't let go, no matter what you have tried? The wellness revolution focuses on the idea that lifestyle related illness now makes up the vast majority of health problems people experience.

There are three major factors in a person's lifestyle that directly affect their health. They are what people eat; how much stress they have and how they deal with it; and how physically active a person is or isn't.

While it is impossible to remove stress entirely from one's life, chiropractic adjustments improve the way your body adapts to the stressors in your life. As Darwin once said, it is not the strongest of the species that survives, but the one most adaptable to change.

2015 SHIPPING SEASON KICKS OFF IN APRIL

It's a sure sign of spring: the St. Lawrence Seaway is scheduled to open on April 2. The arrival of the first ship into the Port of Toronto is expected shortly thereafter, kicking off Toronto's 2015 shipping season.

It will allow for the delivery of salt and sugar, as well as concrete, sand and other goods needed to support the city's booming construction industry, directly into the heart of the city.

Every year, approximately 30 to 45 international or ocean-going ships visit Toronto, carrying cargo from countries as far away as China, Australia and South Korea. Last year, more than 160 ships from overseas, the U.S.A and from within the Great Lakes system visited the Port, delivering 2 million tonnes of cargo, an eight-year high for marine imports into the city.

JADE IS THE PERFECT GEM FOR SPRING

Just as the splendour of spring is blossoming with glorious greens and pastels, so have the magnificent colours of jade in Vivah Jewellery's collections.

Jade has long been a staple gemstone worldwide for many centuries. It is no surprise that we are seeing these classic and rich hues in modern day designs.

You may think it only comes in its classic pale green colour, however, many are surprised to learn that it comes in purple, red, yellow, and black hues. Red, yellow and green jade pieces are fun and bright, which instantly reminds people of warm, sunny summer days. The darker hues such as purple and black are perfect for adding a soft and feminine touch to any ensemble.

Jade gemstones are frequently carved into lovely shapes and whimsical creatures. Their collection of jade is highlighted with a few stunningly carved pendants, such as their happy Buddha and elephant. Their featured carved green jade elephant pendant is a fast favourite. This playful pendant is crafted in sterling silver and contains a bezel-set ruby eye. The spirit of jade is believed to bring good luck and fortune while the elephant represents strength, high moral standards and long life.

A timeless piece that must be added to every jewellery lovers collection!
