It was in 1853 when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, an English member of the Rothschild family, purchased a property in Pauillac called Ch√Ęteau Brane-Mouton. The new owner renamed using his last name and hence Chateau Mouton Rothschild was born. Originally awarded a Second Growth status, Mouton was subsequently elevated to First Growth status in 1973, after much perseverance on the part of the Baron Philippe Rothschild over the decades.

When did Mouton Rothschild first began commissioning artists to design its labels?

It all started in 1924 when Cubist artist Jean Carlu created a special label for the  Chateau Mouton Rothschild which till today, remains as one of the greatest examples of Cubist influence in commercial art.

We are pleased to offer 5 vintages here ranging from early 2000s to 2013.

15 Bottles Mouton Rothschild 2001 @ $820 Nett per Bottle
JS 94 ...It offers a tell-tale cassis-scented nose, and a monolithic , medium to full-bodied style...

5 Bottles Mouton Rothschild 2003 @ $880 Nett per Bottle
RP 91: outstanding 2003 Mouton-Rothschild... there is a lot to like... the nose offers up notes of cedarwood , roasted coffee , tobacco leaf and red and blackcurrants . This spicy , earthy , fleshy , medium to full-bodied 2003...

3 Bottles Mouton Rothschild 2009 @ $1380 Nett per Bottle
WA 97:  ...the 2009 Mouton-Rothschild is a stunning wine... extraordinarily dense and yet still utterly composed and beautifully focused, segueing towards an intense spicy finish. I noticed Philippe Dhalluim almost laughing at the quality of this 2009, such is its pedigree... Magnificent .

30 Bottles Mouton Rothschild 2010 @ $1450 Nett per Bottle
WA 99:  ...2010 Mouton-Rothschild is a modern-day benchmark for the First Growth and here, side-by-side with the 2009, it certainly has its nose in front... quite breathtaking delineation and precision ... It is totally entrancing ... Like watching Usain Bolt in his prime sprinting to another world record, this wine is almost self-effacing in terms of its brilliance .

36 Bottles Mouton Rothschild 2013 @ $580 Nett per Bottle
WA 92:  The 2013 Mouton-Rothschild has a conservative , straight-laced , tobacco-stained bouquet... The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin , balanced with tobacco and red berry fruit , moderate depth with touches of dried herbs lining the finish... this is a strong effort in a difficult vintage.
