Emporia, Kansas 11/201/2013 --
A new sports bar and grill makes its home in downtown Emporia.  The Scoreboard Sports Bar and Grill, owned by Keith and Denise Foster, is set to open in NovemberThe Scoreboard's location at 23 East 6th Avenue, places the business in close proximity to the Civic Auditorium, home to many Emporia State University and area sporting events.

The Scoreboard Sports Bar and Grill will feature décor of many different area sports teams, with special emphasis on Emporia State University.  The concept is something that owner Keith Foster has been interested in for some time.  Foster stated "I wanted to compliment the Civic Auditorium and be part of the downtown while filling a void in the community."  With sports memorabilia from ESU, KU, KSU, Clint Bowyer and a giant scoreboard from Americus, The Scoreboard will create a unique environment in Emporia.  Foster added "we will have pictures of every Emporia State University sports team, and we want to create a "wow" type atmosphere for everyone that walks in our doors."

For those that visit The Scoreboard, be prepared for high quality locally sourced food options.  Gourmet burgers, deli sandwiches, salads, and an extensive appetizer menu are  partnered with classic malts and shakes to produce a family friendly menu.  Some food items will have a unique local flair, with a host of signature selections including a burger named after former ESU Basketball Coach Ron Slaymaker, known as the "Slayburger".

Beyond food and décor, The Scoreboard will offer live entertainment from time to time, as well as watch parties.  Keith Foster explained "I want ESU students to feel welcome in the atmosphere we will create, and I plan on employing several Emporia State Students at The Scoreboard."  The Scoreboard's hours of operations will be Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.  The grill will remain open until 10:00 p.m. each night.

The Foster family's basic business philosophy is to "Treat people phenomenally."  Foster said "we understand that people have options, so we want to have phenomenal service, serve the best food we can serve and give people such a great experience that they want to come back."  With a location across Mechanic Street from the Civic Auditorium, Foster indicated that The Scoreboard is in a great location for people heading to or from an ESU sporting event, or any of the other myriad of activities that take place at the Civic.  The Scoreboard's location in the heart of the downtown and a few blocks from Emporia State University will also serve as another great dining destination for members of the community.

The bar portion of The Scoreboard will open this Friday, November 22, at 4:00 p.m. and again on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.  The Scoreboard will be closed to the public on Sunday for an employee training, and then the bar portion of the Scoreboard will reopen Monday through Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.  The full kitchen will open on Black Friday, November 29th
