Learn More About the Latest SPBID Streetscape Pilot Project
"The Spot @ Hope St" is a proposed pilot project that would temporarily repurpose lanes on Hope St. between 11th and 12th St. into a community gathering space.
The pilot has received significant support from stakeholders and a favorable editorial from the Downtown News as respondents have highlighted the need for more green space in the neighborhood. Community members have also brought up some concerns that are currently being worked through. The proposed pilot will be discussed next at the
SPBID Board of Directors meeting at 8:30 AM on Feb. 25th
.
Outreach to the community has included meetings with local businesses, HOA boards and residents, as well as a a community meeting on January 27, 2016.
Along with representatives from Melendrez Landscape Architects and the DoArt Foundation, 19 community members attended and had the chance to provide input on the proposal.

South Park Welcomes Two New Murals
SP Outdoor Public Art Gallery Now Includes 10 Murals
Two new murals have joined the South Park outdoor art gallery.
The South Park BID is proud to announce the presence of a new mural at Pico Blvd & Grand Ave. It was completed on February 8, 2016 and celebrated with a group run that included over 500 runners in attendance. LA-based artist
Drew Merritt
was inspired for this mural through a collaboration between Lululemon, BlackList LA, and the Do Art Foundation. It is a love note to runners and the City of Los Angeles.
A new mural has been completed for HNYPT
in South Park II (212 W. 12
th St). Created by visiting artist duo
Gabriel & Isaac Fortoul
, the mural was completed during the week of February 15, 2016.

DLANC Introduces E-Elections
Polls Are Open Until May 5, 2016
The Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC)
is holding elections for all seats. The polls will be open May 5, 2016 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. But you don't have to wait until Election Day to vote, because we are making history. Voting will be done online as well as at the polls.
In order to ensure South Park BID Stakeholder voices are heard on DLANC,
SPBID Director of Real Estate & Planning Josh Kreger will be running for the Business seat. Vote for Josh!
Voter Registration
Voters must be 16 years old to vote and provide proof of stakeholder status. Stakeholders either live, work or own property in the DLANC boundaries. DLANC is divided into five territories. To determine the territory in which you are a stakeholder, please take a look at our

Even if you are already registered to vote in regular city, state and federal elections, you will need to register for our election separately, as the systems are different.

Candidate Registration
DLANC plays in important role in shaping our ever changing city and you can be a part of it.
Elections will be held for all seats for two year terms. The minimum requirement is about 10-15 hours a month. Every board member will be required to attend monthly board meetings and participate in at least one committee.

SPBID Works to Improve Pico Metro Station Environment
The
South Park Walkability Project continues to progress toward the goal of improving the pedestrian environment around the Pico Metro Station. The project team is currently finishing up a survey of the area and has come up with a preliminary design concept that features enhanced pedestrian lighting, public art, improved way-finding and better landscaping.
The preliminary design concept will go before the
Board of Directors on February 25 for approval. If approved by the SPBID Board, the design will then go to the City for approval. The project must be completed by the end of 2016.

Key Highlights From 2/3 SOBO Meeting and 2/10 SPII Meeting
2/3 SOBO Committee Meeting
The February 3 SOBO Committee Meeting hosted a special presentation on the progress of the "
Circa"
Project (1200 S. Fig) by Alex Chan of LendLease, which will be closing one lane of Flower St temporarily. The SOBO Committee reviewed and recommended approval for a preliminary My Fig Design. Updates were given on the South Park Green Alley Pilot Project as well as a crime prevention program partnership with USC. The SOBO committee also reviewed plans and funding on The Spot @ Hope St.
2/10 SPII Committee Meeting
The February 10 SPII Committee Meeting provided detailed updates on the Clean & Safe Services in the South Park II District. As of early February, the Service Team had removed nearly 5 tons of trash in 5 weeks. The Service Team is currently focused on providing heavy maintenance services, from clearing the sewer drains and intensive graffiti removal. A detailed service plan can be found on the SPII page

DTLA Community Hears Latest on SP Developments
On Thursday, February 4, 2016, over 60 guests gathered at the LA Athletic Club to hear the latest on South Park developments, real estate and otherwise. The presentation was led by South Park BID Executive Director Jessica Lall.

60,000+ Attendees Experienced Art Exhibition South Park
The 2016 LA Art Show took place from January 27 - January 31, 2016. This year saw a record number of attendees with over 60,000 guests experiencing the many exhibits, events, and panel discussions surrounding the LA Art Show.
South Park BID Executive Director Jessica Lall participated on a panel discussion, Mural Renaissance in DTLA: Challenge of Expression and Legacy, to discuss the future of art in Downtown LA and South Park LA amidst rapid development. Other panelists included: Renowned muralist Kent Twitchell, MCLA's Board president, attorney Eric Bjorgum (Karish & Bjorgum PC), Mear One (Artist), Evan Skrederstu (Muralist), and Tanner Blackman (Kindel Gagan Public Affairs Consulting).
The South Park BID was also involved in facilitating interactive art and sculptures throughout the neighborhood and outside of the LA Convention Center during the LA Art Show weekend exhibition.

SPBID Exec. Director Moderates Discussion on Development
South Park BID Executive Director Jessica Lall was a panelist at the Cornell Real Estate Panel Discussion, held at The Bloc on January 26. Real estate industry and civic leaders had a lively discussion about the opportunities and challenges facing Downtown Los Angeles as it experiences a period of such dynamic growth.
Panelists saw many positive aspects of the investment currently taking place downtown and the consensus was that there is still room for more investment downtown. Challenges mentioned included the need for more family and middle income housing along with better approaches to addressing homelessness.

SPBID Clean Team's Monthly Focus
Maintenance Crews Keep South Park Clean
Starting in 2015, South Park's Clean Team focuses on a monthly special project in order to increase the overall cleanliness of the neighborhood.
This month, the Clean Team focused on painting all electrical poles.
Earlier this year, the Clean Team steam washed select locations in the district, pressure-washed every trash can in the district, removed weeds from all local tree wells, removed graffiti, touched up walls with paint, and cleaned the utility boxes and alleys.
Stay tuned for information on special projects from the South Park BID Clean Team in the coming months.

Our Safety Team is

making strides in improving the security of South Park. Patrolling 24-hours a day, seven days a week by foot, bike, Segway, or vehicle, the Safety Team assists with activities such as public street disorder, and panhandling, in addition to visitor assistance, special events support, and accompanied walk services.
