BID Repairs 800 Trip Hazards Across South Park District

Starting this week, the South Park BID began repairing approximately 800 uneven sidewalk locations in the district.  Expect some noise and dust, but minimal traffic impacts.  Utilizing a concrete cutting technique, saw cutting, problem areas will be cut at an angle that removes the trip hazard.

These repairs will not include areas broken by tree roots or those in front of new developments, where the sidewalks will be completely reinstalled soon.

The entire process will take 8 - 10 weeks, with the entire repair team working on one location at a time in order minimize impact in each area.  Notices will be passed out daily to the buildings and stakeholders who will be impacted as the process moves along each street.  The construction will only take place weekdays, from approximately 8 AM - 4 PM.

The repairs will move along the streets of South Park in the following order: Hope St, Grand St, Venice Blvd, Pico Blvd, 12th St, and Flower St.

Please call the BID should you experience any particular issues as our sidewalks get fixed, and we will do our best to resolve them.

Green Alley Plan Shared on Streetsblog LAStreetsblog

Local News Source Discusses the Possibility of Green Alleys in SP

Local news source Streetsblog LA recently posted an article on South Park's Green Alley Visioning Report, looking at the feasibility and tiered approach that our report suggests for alleys throughout the district.  The article points out that one of the most difficult aspects of creating "livable alleys" is determining the intervention possible and best fitting in each particular location, and the importance of working with partner entities in order to enable cost savings and maximum efficiency.

16 New Trees Planted in South ParkNewTrees

Huge Thanks to City Depts., LACC, and Local Landscape Architects

The Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) has successfully planted 16 of the 18 new trees in South Park.  Some of these trees are in brand new tree wells, also built by the LACC.

Huge thanks to LACC, and all who have made this possible at City Plants, Urban Forestry, Melendrez, and Mia Lehrer and Associates.  The effort was a great collaboration between the South Park BID and these entities, and we're grateful for their assistance.  The South Park BID will now be watering these trees, and awaiting the last two to be planted.

Please let us know if you see any of theses new trees requiring special assistance.  Also, stay tuned for more new trees coming soon!

City Looks at Options for Fixing SidewalksNextCity

In South Park and Across Los Angeles, Sidewalks Need Help

The City of Los Angeles is looking closely at the many options for fixing sidewalks across the city. South Park BID has been working very closely on the issue, as it impacts the quality of life of our residents, as well as the ability of new businesses to attract customers.  Additionally, as the influx of new development in South Park will result in many new sidewalks where there has been construction, but leave cracked sidewalks in the spaces in between.

City Council has considered many options for funding sidewalk repairs, from asking property owners to repair them, to sidewalk assessment districts.  South Park BID has been at the forefront of this issue.  Be sure to read all about what our Executive Director, Jessica Lall, had to say in the article below.  The expectation is that a plan for repairs and funding will be proposed by Council this summer, so stay tuned!
