AVANT Apartments Now OpenAVANT

Newest Residential in South Park is Ready for Move-Ins

The initial phase of the new AVANT Apartments is now open for you to check out and settle in!

This new residential building in South Park packages all of the amenities of a five-star hotel for a mid-range price tag just steps away from LA Live.

With ample roof and pool-side lounges and gourmet kitchens inside 9-foot ceiling apartments, the residential building amply accommodates all social and private needs of its habitants.

Most importantly though, AVANT's central location to LA's key work and play districts as well as conveniently accessible public transportation means that its residents don't live in their cars to access life.

For more information on units, amenities, and more, check out avantsouthpark.com.

AEG Signs Lease for 1917 Desmond BuildingAEG

L.A. LIVE & Staples Center Owner to Move 500 Jobs

The 1917 Desmond building, which has held a car dealership, department store, coffee shop, and more over the past century, is now going to hold a major South Park entity - AEG.  Anschutz Entertainment Group, owner of the King's hockey team, Staples Center, L.A. LIVE and other entertainment venues around the world, is moving 500 employees from their mid-city Wilshire location to this historic location on 11th and Hope.  The company will be leasing from owner Lincoln Properties, which purchased the building last year.  Across the street from existing and incoming restaurants, housing, and retail, the revitalization of this historic gem will be an excellent addition to an already blossoming corner.

With construction beginning now, AEG plans to move in next April.  There is a plan to place a cafe on the ground floor, taking advantage of the high ceilings and large window spaces.  South Park is excited to welcome more of AEG's employees to the district!

Grand Opening of Double Marriott HotelMarriott

Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn Open this Month

With much grandeur, July 2nd marked the official opening of Marriott's Courtyard and Residence Inn double hotel in South Park.

These two hotels in one add 393 rooms to South Park's shortage of hotel rooms necessary to house attendants of L.A. LIVE and LA Convention Center events and boost downtown's tourist capacities.

This Marriott, unlike its higher-end adjacent cousin, is designed to cater to business travelers with more moderate budgets and offers shorter-term options on the Courtyard side and longer-term stay options in the Residence half.

Just east of the building is the site of the incoming Renaissance Inn, expected in 2017, and also by Marriott.

CHMC Awarded as GreenHealth PartnerCHMC

Local Hospital Recognized as an Important Sustainable Entity

South Park's local hospital, California Hospital Medical Center of Dignity Health, was recently given the 2014 "Greenhealth Partner for Change" Award by Practice Greenhealth, the nation's leading entity focusing on efficient and environmentally savvy practices in healthcare.

CHMC won this award for many reasons, including opening of a Silver Level LEED-certified building, averting over 1,128 pounds from landfill through its recycling program, having been a regional leader as a mercury-free facility for the past 7 years, and cutting natural gas use by 35%.

With such a long-standing presence in the area, it comes as little surprise  that CHMC would deserve such a recognition.  CHMC was California's first dedicated medical facility, built by local doctors to serve Los Angeles. In its almost 130-year presence in downtown LA, the hospital has not stopped expanding or innovating and has become an indispensable member of the community.

Please join the South Park community in congratulating everyone at CHMC!

Hide It, Lock It, Keep It - Retain Your ValuablesLAPD

We Can All Help Decrease Thefts from Motor Vehicles

South Park BID values the safety of its residents and their property. Even with the vigilance of SP's Safety Team, keeping cars and valuables inside safe is a task we can all help out with. Theft from motor vehicles, which we see across DTLA, is one of the most preventable crimes - if we follow the "Hide it, Lock it, Keep it" steps prescribed by LAPD.

LAPD has studied the issue closely.  Their bait cars show that victims of such theft often left valuables in plain sight, at times without locking their vehicles.  From iPads to purses, jewelry to phones, you should always put it under your seat or in the trunk, even when parking in a garage.  These crimes on average set victims back $1885.  Please remember to Hide it! Lock It! and Keep it!

Retail & Restaurants Wanted

As you all are aware, South Park is currently in a stage of positive change and growth, including new developments and infrastructure projects.

Despite the large scale investment happening, there are still vacant storefronts and buildings that are in need of activation.  The BID has a focused effort working with local property owners and leasing brokers to fill our vacant spaces with a combination of  short and long term retail/restaurant space.

If you are a business looking to open a location in this vibrant area of Downtown LA, or a property owner or leasing agent looking to tell the bigger picture story of South Park, please contact Jess Mandelbaum in our office today at:  jmandelbaum@southpark.la
