Event Showcases 800 Sidewalk Trip Hazard Repairs in South Park

On February 26, the South Park BID celebrated our 800 sidewalk repairs with Councilmember Jos  Huizar of Council District 14, Commissioner Mike Davis of the Board of Public Works, and property owner Bob Buente of 1010 Development Corporation and South Park BID Board member.  The repairs were completed through a collaborative process with the city and a private concrete cutting firm, and is helping pave the way for repairs across the Los Angeles through this innovative method.

The event was a huge success, drawing in local residents, business owners, city officials, and media to the corner of 11th and Hope.  This area of South Park is the center of updates to the built environment - a mural has recently been completed on the parking structure, and SPBID has been approved to build a parklet.  We're still looking for a General Contractor, so please send referrals our way!

Huge thanks to Derrick Moore from Avison Young and CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice for providing refreshments!

Learn more about this unique infrastructure improvement by checking out the press release here.   You can see a video of the entire event by clicking here!

SPBID'S Public Art Initiative Flourishes with Do Art Foundation

Mural by DourOne on Hope & 12th
Have you been down Hope St. in South Park recently?  Then you may have noticed the addition of two more beautiful murals gracing the walls!  Thanks to the BID's partnership with the Do Art Foundation, a mural has been painted on Hope and 12th St by DourOne, and one Hope and Pico by Christina Angelina.

Both murals represent the growth and motion of the South Park area, and  are part of a larger public art initiative created through a collaboration with the Do Art Foundation, which helps bring art to communities around the world.  There are now 4 murals in South Park thanks to this partnership, and many more to come!  If you snap a picture of any mural in South Park, be sure to tag it #SPDoesArt!

Council District 14 Race Will Not Go to a Run Off in June

Councilmember Jos Huizar has been chosen once again to represent the 14th Council District of Los Angeles, which includes Downtown, Boyle Heights, Eagle Rock, El Sereno, and Highland Park.  By earning more than 50% of the vote in last week's March 3 primary election, a run-off will not be held in June.  Many LA Council District seats were filled in this election by incumbents like Huizar, who understand their districts and the unique needs there.  We look forward to  continuing  to work with Councilmember Huizar and his staff on many projects in South Park!
