South Park Focus at CCA Land Use MeetingCCA

SP Development, Projects, and Policies Impacting Discussed

South Park and its future was the main point of discussion at July's Central City Association (CCA) Housing, Land Use & Development Committee Meeting.  Jessica Lall, South Park BID Executive Director, served as a special guest speaker, providing background info and updates on the area, reporting on the influx of development, and starting the conversation on the necessary policy reforms to continue to make it a better place.

Other speakers and guests included Kevin Keller, Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti; Nick Maricich, Bryan Eck, and Deborah Kahen, Department of City Planning; Tanner Blackman and Jessica Wethington McLean, Office of Councilmember Jose Huizar.  All were extremely valuable in the discussions on TFAR, Quimby, and other reforms that will help move South Park, and all of DTLA, into an age of progressive and well-planned development.

At this excellent networking event, Steve Hillard, President of Streetplus presented, and our safety ambassadors and clean team were able to impart their knowledge while learning great new things to bring back to the district.

DWP Fixing Lights in DistrictDWP

Local Outages Caused by Underground System Failure

South Park BID, Council District 14, the Bureau of Street Lighting, and Department of Water and Power have heard about the issues with light outages, and are working to fix them!

DWP has been out in the district over the past two weeks making repairs to an underground system failure that impacted multiple blocks of DTLA, including Hope St and Grand Ave.  Please continue to notify the BID if you see further outages, and we will keep you posted as we have more information.

Please also call the BID's 24/7 safety hotline if you ever feel unsafe walking down a dark street!

SP BID at LAPD's National Night Out NNO

South Park Joins the Fun and Education at Annual Event

South Park BID was proud to be a part of LAPD Central Division's National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5.

In 1984, the National Association of Town Watch introduced the idea of National Night Out to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood camaraderie.

Traditionally, "light on" and front porch vigils have been ways to participate in the annual event,  however, activities have expanded to include block parties, cookouts, parades, police station open houses, festivals, neighborhood walks, safety fairs, contests, rallies and meetings.  LAPD Central hosts this event in DTLA on the first Tuesday in August.  It featured live bands, local art, players from the Lakers and Clippers, and lots of food.

We hope you were able to enjoy the festivities and learn about public safety, too!

Local Residents and BID Clean Team Ask For Your Help

We're working hard every day to keep South Park clean and safe, but we need your help!

If you have a dog in the district, please be mindful of where you allow it to relieve itself, and always dispose of their feces properly.

Not cleaning up after your dog is not only a health and safety hazard, but is disrespectful to your fellow residents.

Please click here for a map of all of our dog baggie dispenser locations.

Don't forget to speak up!  If you see someone leaving dog feces behind, make sure to give them a friendly reminder to pick it up!

There is also a dog park near L.A. LIVE - check it out here.
