South Park BID & Do Art Foundation Come Together for Public Art

Photo from @BirdmanPhotos

This month, South Park BID is proud to announce a new partnership with the non-profit Do Art Foundation, in order to curate and install a variety of public art pieces across the district.  Working with world renown and local artists, the Do Art Foundation kicked off the program with a new mural called "Preciousness of the Hunt", by international artist Faith47.  Completed in just a couple of days, the South Park neighborhood was lucky enough to have this piece donated by the artist.  Check it out on Flower & 12th St.

Plans are underway for a variety of new murals in the area, as well as sculptures, temporary installations, performance art, and outdoor art class events for youth.  Stay tuned for more announcements about the new South Park public art campaign!  When you see more art in the district, be sure to tag it on Instagram and Twitter with #SPdoesart.

DTLA Streetcar Estimated Costs Much LowerStreetcar

Streetcar Consultants URS Corp. Say Total is $55 Million Less

Newest estimates of the total cost of the DTLA streetcar come to $55 million less than was previously reported.  URS Corp., new consulting firm for the streetcar, has just released a report that is much more comprehensive than the study from last year.  Working through a federal grant program for projects of this scale, as well as TIGER grants, and a possible public-private partnership, City officials are confident that the current funding gap will be able to be closed.

The approved route will run south from 1st Street and Broadway, west on 11th Street, north on Figueroa Street, east on 7th Street and north on Hill Street. Then the tracks would proceed north to Grand Avenue, turning around near the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Service is now expected to start some time in 2019.  More updates soon from streetcar.la, but currently the site is still under construction.

The Briks
SP's Newest Restaurant is Here!

Have you checked out South Park's newest restaurant?  We have, and its clearly something special.  The first concept from Chef Mario Christerna, this multi-ethnic spot combines North African, French, Mexican, and Spanish cuisine into mouth-watering delicacies.  Born in East LA, and having traveled the world, Chef Mario has put down roots in South Park, and is ready to call it home for The Briks.

While the superb lamb shank (pictured above) is only available for dinner, lunch and dinner include Spanish flatbread cocas, unique salads, and the namesake "brik" - flash fried rectangles of breading filled with egg and a range of cultural flavors spices.  Featured briks include Indian curry, Italian shrimp, duck confit, and more.
