Why is there an extra candle on our altar? Father Jeff and family are about half way through their sabbatical. All of us miss them but are regularly reminded they will soon return. There is a lighted candle on the altar for every service they are away. Father Jeff also has a candle that we gave them to remind them of our bond to each other and our special prayer that they make a safe return home to us. Please look for the candle at our next service and keep all their family in your daily prayers. What a glorious day August 9th will be to celebrate our renewed commitment to each other and their safe return home. |
Bright Way Ministry Bert Tomlin and Katherine Johnson held the first worship service at Bright Way Personal Care Home in Pine Mountain on June 14th. St Nicholas will provide services the second Sunday of each a month to the residents. Also, they are open to visits during the week. This was arranged by David Walker as an outreach ministry. More Lay Eucharistic Visiting Ministers are welcomed. Contact Sue Halmrast if you would like to be trained as one. |

Get to Know Your Parish Family
John and Charlotte Winsness
Charlotte and John Winsness live in Pine Mountain Valley, in the home where Charlotte was born. They also have a townhouse at St. Simons Island, GA. Charlotte lived in PMV until she was nine years old at which time she and her parents moved to Atlanta. Her father was Project Engineer for the Rural Recovery Act in PMV under FDR. They moved when the project closed and her father became Chief Building Inspector for the City of Atlanta. They kept the PMV family home and visited on weekends and the summers. Charlotte inherited it at their death.
John was born in Philadelphia, PA and moved with his mother, father and two brothers to Atlanta when his father was made Plant Manager of GE in Chamblee, GA.
Charlotte and John met at Oglethorpe University in North Atlanta their junior year, graduated in the same class and married two days after graduation. They made their home in Tucker, GA. They have two sons. A third son (Brian) died as an infant. Shan, their oldest son, lives in Brunswick, GA and is a Biologist with EPD with GA Department of Natural Resources. His wife Jill teaches Special Ed in Glynn County. They have two daughters. Charlotte and John's younger son Kevin lives in Cumming, GA and is an Electrical Engineer with AT&T. His wife Michelle is a nurse with the Forsyth County school system. They have two daughters and a son.
Charlotte has a BS degree in Biology and was a microbiologist at CDC in Atlanta in the Venereal Disease Research Lab until their boys were born. After the boys entered school, she taught kindergarten for eighteen years. She played on two tennis leagues (ALTA and USTA) for many years in Atlanta. Now Charlotte is an avid genealogist, belongs to NSDAR, Harris County Quilter's Guild, Hamilton Book Club, volunteers at the FOCUS Thrift Shop, is a member of PMV Chamber of Commerce and dabbles in watercolor.
John has a BA degree in Business Administration and was a Systems Engineer at the GM plant in Doraville, GA. He was on the team that developed the Paint Robots for GM. In Tucker he played tennis, worked with their boys' Scout troops, was president of PTA (along with Charlotte), and has a hobby repairing old clocks. In PMV he is a member of NSSAR, Treasurer of the PMV Chamber of Commerce and the PMV Fire Department, a member of the Pine Mountain Poets and is an avid gardener.
Charlotte and John are both charter members of St. Nicholas. Charlotte is a "Cradle Episcopalian." Charlotte is on the Altar Guild, makes the Baptismal Banners for the children, keeps the church history and writes the Member Bios for the newsletter. John was on the first vestry and served in that capacity for several years. He was the Treasurer for several years, and he and Charlotte were both ushers. John was part of the group that laid the brick floor in the church working as the "brick cutter." John is in the St. Nicholas Writer's Group. They are both members of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society and Friends of the St. Simons Library.

Please help Patty Hamilton keep the church directory as up-to-date as possible. If you have not yet filled out a form, please pick one up in the cloister room and return to the church office. Or you can send your info via email to Patty Hamilton at pgrace456@gmail.com.
- Please include:your names and the names of your minor children,
- address,
- email addresses,
- phone numbers (cell and home),
- birthdays and anniversaries.
If you need a new picture or a new name tag, indicate that as well. Feel free to use a favorite picture. Just send it in jpeg form to pgrace456@gmail.com.
Mobile App Installation Instructions
Church members can view the St. Nicholas Church Directory from their iPhone, iPad, Android or Kindle Fire by downloading the free Instant Church Directory Members App.
You may search for "Instant Church Directory" in the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon Appstore, or use this link:
After installation, open the Instant Church Directory icon (it looks like a church). It will ask for your email address. If your email address is in our church directory, the program will generate a password for you and email it to you.
This worked great for most, but if you have any problems make sure you first check to see that your email address is in the church directory.
