Get ready to welcome

The Rev Robert B. Dendtler

(Father Bob)

The Rev Robert Dendtler (Fr. Bob) will be our Supply Priest while Fr. Jeff is on Sabbatical.

Fr. Bob and his wife, Charlotte, have been married 54 years. They have three adult children plus grandchildren. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania (1958) and University of Tennessee 1963)  Fr. Bob joined the United States Army. He served until 1980 when he decided to go to seminary--something he had always thought about doing.

He graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1983 and then Princeton Theological Seminary in Pastoral Care and Counseling, 1990.

From 1983 until 2000 when Fr. Bob retired, he has served churches in New Jersey and Georgia. Upon retirement, he has been a Supply or Interim in Georgia and the Virgin Islands.

Fr. Bob is active in the Cursillo Movement, Education for Ministry Mentor, Disciples of Christ in Community and has mentored four postulants for Deacon in the Diocese of the Virgin Islands--just to name a few of his activities.

He and Charlotte are in excellent health. He exercises and plays golf regularly. The Dendtlers live part-time in Georgia and part-time in the Virgin Islands. Fr Bob and Charlotte are looking forward to serving at St. Nicholas and being engaged with us.They are warm, bright and open people. He will be with us each weekend except the 17th of May when he will be playing in a Golf Tournament in support of Veterans--something he has done for years. On that weekend, the Rev Rebekah Hatch will join us.

Fr. Bob is eager to serve us as Priest, teacher and friend. The Vestry feels very fortunate to have Fr. Bob with us while Fr. Jeff is on Sabbatical. We know the members of St. Nicholas will welcome him in their usual warm way. A full resume is available in the Narthex.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Karen Wynegar for transferring her membership to St. Nicholas from St. Patrick's Episcopal Church & Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Albany, Georgia.

Karen has been an active participant for a number of years, and will soon be married to her fiancee Jay Thorne on May 1, 2015

Congratulations and welcome home!

Steward of the Month: Linda Sawyer
       St. Nicholas has Talent!

This wonderful, colorful, playful mural in our new nursery was painted by none other than our own Linda Sawyer!!!!  Linda has been painting for three years, but had never done a mural before. Sue Halmrast asked Linda to paint a mural and assured her she could do it. Linda spent a month painting and says she loved every minute of it!!!  Please stop by the nursery and take a look. This picture doesn't do it justice!!!
Thank you Linda!

What Is Stewardship?

Stewardship is ... Everything I do after I say, "I believe."

Stewardship isn't ...

+ Fundraising.

+ Paying the light bills or maintaining a building.

+ Paying a decent staff.

+ Meeting the budget.

+ Keeping the church alive.

+ Paying our fair share of the dues.

+ Passing on a legacy to our children.

Stewardship is ...

+ Sharing in God's mission with a glad, generous and grateful heart.

+ Transforming lives in our community.

+ Prayerfully responding to God's call.

+ A deeply spiritual matter.

+ Something that blesses the giver more than the receiver.

Stewardship is discipleship; it is a complete reorientation of our lives toward God, who calls us through Jesus Christ.

Stewardship is... Everything I do after I say, "I believe."

  Mallon and Kay Faircloth

Mallon and Kay Hatchell Faircloth originally from Cordele and Savannah, Georgia, respectively, came to St. Nicholas by Letter of Transfer from Christ Episcopal Church in Cordele. He serves St. Nicholas on the Usher team, and Kay serves on the Altar Guild. They have four grown children, daughters Ashley, Vandy, Hayley, a son Michael, and eight grandchildren.

Upon graduation from Savannah High School, Kay attended Georgia Baptist Hospital College of Nursing in Atlanta and, upon graduation there, she became a Surgical Nurse at Dekalb General Hospital.  After several years of Nursing, her career led her to the Georgia Public Health system.  She relocated to Albany as Director of Children's Health Services for the 14 Counties of the 8th Public Health District, during which time she obtained a Masters of Public Administration Degree from Valdosta State University.  She retired from the State Public Health System to the position of Judicial Administrator in the Georgia Superior Courts, where, among her many other duties, she established a Mediation Program for the Circuit Courts.  She made her final retirement from employment in 1999 to move with Mallon to the Columbus, Georgia area.

Mallon graduated from Crisp County High School, then attended The University of Tennessee's Liberal Art College and College of Law, from which he graduated in 1968. He then returned to Cordele and practiced law for thirteen years, before being appointed by Governor George Busbee as Superior Court Judge of the Cordele Judicial Circuit. He presided over the four Superior Courts in that Circuit until 1999 when he was appointed to the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Georgia as Federal Magistrate Judge in the Columbus Division, from which office he retired after twelve years of federal service.

Two Outreach Volunteers Needed

The  outreach committee is seeking two volunteers. The idea is to make sure that our parish is aware of opportunities for Christian service to the community and to facilitate participation. Contact Lou Baker, if you can help.

1. St. Nicholas cooperates with FOCUS in Hamilton, CVEM in Columbus, Episcopal Relief, and similar initiatives. You can take responsibility for coordinating our participation with these good outreach organizations.

2. St. Nicholas has an ongoing relationship with Christian Valley Church in Cataula. Currently, we walk together in the MLK unity parade and worship together in the annual summertime Pulpit Swap. If you would like to shepherd this relationship and be alert to developing other interfaith/
interchurch dialogues, this ministry is for you.

Adult Formation

Mobile App Installation Instructions

Church members can view the St. Nicholas Church Directory from their iPhone, iPad, Android or Kindle Fire by downloading the free Instant Church Directory Members App.

You may search for "Instant Church Directory" in the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon Appstore, or use this link:

After installation, open the Instant Church Directory icon (it looks like a church).  It will ask for your email address.  If your email address is in our church directory, the program will generate a password for you and email it to you.

This worked great for most, but if you have any problems make sure you first check to see that your email address is in the church directory.

Thank you, St. Nicholas family, for your active involvement in our parish.
