Dear Stakeholders,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Paloma Lopez-Santiago, and I am the new Vice President of Advancement here at San Miguel High School. I am super excited to join this incredible school that focuses on growth by creating and investing in a healthier future for our students, our parents, our teachers, our corporate partners, our donors and the community we serve.

Today, I drove with the students to their job sites on their first day of work and watched their supervisors welcome them with a firm handshake. To my amazement, I watched as the students reciprocated with a smile and strong eye contact. Fantastic! With this excitement, I wrote my personal goals which categorize into these three distinct areas: to always share the San Miguel story to a willing ear, to inspire those who want to invest in our future job candidates, and to bring a smile every day to my new family here as they shape and mold our students and their future success. I look forward to meeting all of you at upcoming events this school year. Be sure to keep on the lookout for the invites!

Blessings,

Paloma Lopez-Santiago
Vice President of Advancement
Incoming Freshmen Complete
Summer "Boot Camp"
This summer 102 incoming freshmen completed the Summer Bridge and Corporate Work Study Institute programs! During these 3-week programs, incoming students took intensive courses in math in English in the mornings, just to make sure they're ready to begin their college-preparatory education.

In the afternoons, these incoming students received training to prepare them to be successful in their work study positions. They learned and were assessed on a number of important skills, such as customer service, time management, attention to detail, and technology use in the office.

As you know, every student at San Miguel works one day a week in an entry-level position to earn a portion of their tuition and gain valuable work experience for their future career. Together Summer Bridge and Corporate Work Study Institute help make sure these students are ready to succeed in the classroom and at the workplace!

San Miguel Students Receive Chromebooks to Begin a 1:1 Technology Initiative
In effort to ensure that San Miguel students are receiving the best education possible, San Miguel High School staff handed out Chromebooks to every student last week to use throughout the new school year. Thanks to the generous lead gift from Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Jane Becker, the students will be able use their Google Chromebooks to do homework, watch videos or lectures, and turn in assignments to Google Classroom, something new this year.

Thank you to all of those who have contributed to this exciting initiative to better prepare students to succeed in high school, in college, and in a future career!
"The integration of college and career preparatory skills is what sets the San Miguel program apart. In order for our students to succeed in college and be prepared to thrive in a rapidly evolving and increasingly technologically-advanced workforce, they need to have access and be prepared to utilize the technological tools required to be successful." said Dave Mason, San Miguel High School CEO and President. "Putting a digital device in the hands of every student is a critical first step in this process."
