This newsletter serves as a way to highlight Texas mentoring programs as well as mentoring news and research from across the country that you may be interested in. Please send us your stories and photos and share this newsletter with other mentoring advocates. Share your ideas for future topics. Finally, send us your proposals for the Texas Mentoring Summit and nominate your outstanding mentors, programs and advocates.

The 2018 Texas Mentoring Summit is January 11th & 12th in San Antonio

The UTSA Texas Mentoring Partnership  invites you to join us for the 6th Annual  Texas Mentoring Summit and Mentor Recognition Awards,  January 11 & 12, 2018  at the  University of Texas at San Antonio Downtown Campus.

UTRGV to host High School Leadership Conference in Brownsville
The Annual Leadership Conference will feature leadership activities, workshops and much more! Student leaders will be trained to serve as peer mentors at your campus to promote a college going culture!

The National Mentoring Summit is the only national convening of youth mentoring professionals, researchers, MENTOR Affiliates, philanthropic investors, and government and civic leaders aimed at collectively strengthening and expanding quality mentoring relationships for young people across the country. The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with UTSA to bring you the annual STEM Familia Day event. Families and Mentors/Mentees will enjoy hands-on activities. Meet Dr. Erika Camacho, a student and mentee of algebra teacher, Jaime Escalante made famous in the movie 'Stand and Deliver". She is now a mentor and a great example of the value of mentoring in real life.

Listing your program in the Mentoring Connector helps you recruit more youth mentors and greatly increases visibility for your organization. Thousands of prospective volunteers visit  mentoring.org and our many partner sites each month to connect with mentoring opportunities in their own communities.

Congratulations to all the Texas programs recognized as Examples of Excelencia for using evidence based practices to accelerate Latino student success in higher education at the national level. Many of the programs use mentoring as a component of their success.
