Welcome to Millner Heritage Winery

8/18/17
Good Morning:

Now that Jon is back home from hungry he is working to get back into the swing of things at work. This morning now he is working on his second bottling since he's home, and last weekend he was back at it as a tour guide. This week I asked Jon if he had any problems doing his tour because he was gone such a long time, emphasis on long, did you forget any of your presentation? He said he actually did find he was a little rusty on covering everything. Below is a video that relates to in the cats away the mice will play, it's one of our customers having fun pretending to be a tour guide at Millner Heritage Winery. Thanks to Tom. Speaking of Jon being back, next Tuesday

Anna and Iza are returning home. Their return was delayed from Jon because their airline tickets were somewheres between $200 and $250 cheaper per person by waiting 12 days later. It will be good to see them home again! I bet Iza has grown another inch or two taller or she was gone.

Last Monday I mowed between the great rows tractor, I had tall grass and tall weeds it was about time I did it. Doing this job really gives me a good look at how the crop is coming. Holy cow is this a big crop coming I just hope we get them ripened out and in the tanks. Being that this is farming I know that it isn't over until you've got the grapes in the tank. Heaven forbid we get a hailstorm or tornado or the birds as in the Alfred Hitchcock thriller"The Birds ".  I do have the bird of prey squawk or systems working very well this year. I have one system that has five speakers and another system with 12 speakers and were also using five solar powered speaker systems. The solar powered ones are particularly strong in the morning and by afternoon they start to Peter out. So in the morning it sounds like a whole bunch cackling individual, sometimes makes me even scared to go out there. Here's another grape picture of the week.

Yes it is time for a new wine project. You know one thing about Jon is he's always thinking, sometimes I think he thinks too much. But now and then he does hit with a fairly good idea and he's got another new idea now. Are you familiar with the wine from Hungary called Tokaji ? In fact it's become a national symbol for Hungary. In essence it is made from moldy grapes that dry out in the sun infected with specific mold called botrytis. This wine has a very very long history, centuries. What we are working to do is to dehydrate some of our grapes to then concentrate the flavor compounds and the sugars. Being we are trying something totally new, the odds are we will have a learning curve probably filled with failures. So this morning at 4 AM I woke up early with this on my mind how to succeed with my raisin maker! To read more on Tokaji click the link below.

Harvest will be here Pretty Sooooooner!

Cheri is still collecting names for volunteers for the harvest parties, she does have a very good list by now. At the same time it will take a very large group to handle this crop, and we will have fun.

Again I invite you to sign up to be a harvest volunteer. It's always a fun time and nice clean work with a good company. See old friends and make new ones.Being a harvest volunteer means working four hours in the vineyard cutting clusters of grapes into 5 gallon pails and dumping those pails into bins in the field. The bins hold 500 and 600 pounds of grapes, it's really nice work and does go quite fast. It goes quite fast, we have had a crew harvest to 1 1/2 tons per hour, 6 tons in 4 hours. After the fieldwork then comes the party. A good meal and to drink whatever wine you'd like, plus we send to bottles of wine home per person. It is a fun real world event, these grapes do make our wine.

To volunteer email to our store manager Cheri at [email protected] with the subject line "harvest".  Include your name, phone number, number of people in your group, and the days of the week you can be available.
