Here we are almost to the home stretch of the curling season with many leagues winding up there regular league play and heading into there playoff rounds. We have had a busy December and January will be even busier with two major event playdowns.

January 20-22, 2017 - NACA Northern Mens Playdowns
Fourteen of Northern Alberta's best Men's teams will compete for one of the three qualifying spots for the Alberta Boston Pizza Cup - (AB Mens Provincial Championships) in Westlock AB. There is no admission to come out and watch some great curling at this event. Draw times are: 
Friday Jan. 20  2:30pm, 7:00pm
Saturday Jan.21  10;00am, 2:30pm (A Final), 7:00pm
Sunday Jan.22   9:00am (B Final), 1:30pm, 6:00pm (C Final)

January 26-28, 2017 - Alberta Firefighters Curling Association Provincial Championships
We are proud to be the host club for our Edmonton Fire Department Curling League's Alberta Firefighter Curling Association Provincial Championships. One team will become Aberta Firefighter Curling Champion and wear our provimncial colours when they represent our province at the Canadian Championships in Mississauga Ontario. The Edmonton Fire Department Curling League has been a cornerstone of our club with over 45 years of partnership with the Thistle. The weekend promises to be a memorable one with good friends and good curling.

February 10-12, 201 - 2017 Monty Bonspiel
The Monty Bonspiel is always a huge hit of our bonspiel season. This bonspiel is an open format bonspiel that allows for any combination of players. The Monty bonspiel includes 3 games guaranteed, Saturday banquet and entertainment. This bonspiel always fills to the 32 team entry limit so get your entry in and don't end up on the waiting list. Monthly winner in Everest Ferbey National Pro Am

Congratulations to Jim Baylis from the Thursday night men's league who was a monthly winner in Everest Ferbey National Pro Am contest. Jim entered his name at the office and as drawn from all the curling club entries in our region. You can enter weekly everytime you curl and be entered into the monthly prize draw and for the grand prize draw to travel to Fredericton NB to the Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championship to play in the Pro Am with Randy Ferbey and Jennifer Jones.

Champagne Bonspiel

The 32nd Annual Champagne Bonspiel was held Dec.26-28, 2016. Once again this bonspiel was a terrific time as the bonspiel always attracts a good mix of friends and family type teams looking to do a little curling and have some laughs after Christmas. 
Congratulations to this years champions Gary Greening, Doug Marks, Lance Dealy and Dan Saunders who were forced to draw the button in a last rock win in tight A final.

West Jet Raffle

We are fund raising for the club and are selling raffle tickets. First prize is a flight for two anywhere West jet flies. Second prize is $500. Third prize is $300. Tickets will be for sale at the lounge and the main office.

Thistle teams win at Neil Moher Junior Bonspiel

The Thistle hosted the 26th Annual NACA Neil Moher Junior Bonspiel January 6-8, 2017. The Thistle entered three teams into the event with two winning their respective divisions at the bonspiel. Congratulations to Ginger Huff, Cora Turner, Ariel Diduck, Marley Bettger and coach Don Sutton who won the final in a nail biter extra end. 
Congratulations as well to Shane Kindred, Anne Dobson, Rocco Giacobbo and coach Bill Bruce. The team played three handed all weekend and curled just great but required an extra end as well in the final to take the intermediate division. 


The 2nd session of our Friday Fun league got under way January 13, 2017. We have another great croup of new curlers ready to take up and learn the game. This league has been a tremondous success in getting newer and returning curlers playing our great sport and even graduating players and teams into our regular leagues.
The Fun League gets back on the ice February 3rd and we still have room for more teams, couples or individuals. Call or email us to register or for more information.

We have had a few vehicle break-ins recently. Please remove or lock all valuables in your trunk to help deter this criminal activity and not making our parking lot a hot spot for thieves.
