Hi Everyone!                                         October 3, 2017
Thanks for supporting the work of the Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC)!

The Transformative Justice Coalition  is a nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, formed in 2015 by Renowned Civil Rights Leader Barbara R. Arnwine.

On Tuesday, October 3rd, from 12:00-1:00 P.M. EDT, radio show host Barbara Arnwine, founder and president of the Transformative Justice Coalition  (TJC), was joined by her guests: Louis Elisa, Former Executive Secretary/Director of Development at Seaport Advisory Council, former U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, and former Region 1 FEMA Director, and currently a member of the International Black Emergency Management; and, Vernice Miller-Travis , a Senior Associate in the Community Planning and Design Group of Skeo Solutions . Ms. Miller-Travis also serves on the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council to EPA , and as Vice-Chair of the Maryland Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities . Barbara and her guests highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) and the failure of the Trump Administration’s dilatory response to the devastating aftermath of Hurricanes Maria and Irma.

Barbara asked her disaster relief expert guests what is needed to be done in this moment to protect the lives of 3.4 million Americans in Puerto Rico and 105,000 Americans in the USVI. Other questions answered during the show include: Why are there only 10,000 federal personnel deployed for both USVI and Puerto Rico relief? Why isn’t there more evacuations, especially given hospital limited capacities? What can be done to get the appropriate recovery and relief response by the federal administration? Is race a factor in this failed US response? Considering the widespread damage done to several Caribbean island nations, should the US have a broader regional plan for relief? How can our listeners help?

Unfortunately, there was no podcast of this show and no livestream due to technical difficulties. However, there will be a highlight reel made of the footage we were able to get of this show, and it will be uploaded onto BarbaraArnwine.com and the Igniting Change Facebook Page.

so just send cash:

Millennial Votes Matter Convening Report COMING SOON
Last week, the Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC), during the week of the Congressional Back Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference (CBCF ALC), held an amazing 3-day Millennial Votes Matter Convening and Training event. With our train-the-trainer model, we trained 22 Millennials from across the country to become Voting Rights Champions in their local communities. In addition to three days of seminars, workshops, and trainings, TJC also sponsored a panel at the CBCF ALC on Thursday, September 21st, on "Politics, Policy, and Power", that featured Millennial elected officials, activists, and thought leaders, and was keynoted by David Banner. An in-depth review of this convening and panel will be sent to you and available online this weekend.

  • Leftover Indian farmer settlement money plan left alone
  • BISMARCK, N.D. — A federal appeals court will not reconsider a plan that would distribute $300 million left over from a legal settlement involving the federal government to groups that help American Indians, even though the government’s attorneys say the plan is “regrettable” and wouldn’t have been approved under a Trump administration policy change…The money is left over from a $680 million fund approved by President Barack Obama’s administration in 2011 to settle claims by Native American farmers who said they were denied loans for decades because of government discrimination. Only about half of the 10,000 expected claims materialized…Attorney General Jeff Sessions in June banned the Justice Department from being part of settlements that provide for payments to third parties with no direct claims.

The Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) continues to call upon the Senate Judiciary Committee to hold additional hearings regarding Attorney General Sessions failure to disclose contacts with Russian officials. Also, we urge that he be questioned regarding his reversal of positions regarding voting rights cases, the Department of Justice's "Smart on Crime" programming, and his renewal of the "War on Drugs".  Read TJC’s press release opposing Attorney General Sessions’ Efforts to halt consent decrees here.
