A My Account Story

My wife and I went to Puerto Rico for the 4th of July weekend. We had a great time, as we always do; we spend our time going to the beach, enjoying local restaurants, where ropa vieja or grilled Mahi-Mahi with rice and beans are the staple of the delicious creole cuisine.  The last day is always a sad one; we take one last dip in the ocean, buy fresh coffee beans to take with us and return our rental car.

On this trip in particular, we arrived at the airport with little time to spare. When we got to the airline counter, we realized that my wife had forgotten her ID.  She left it in a small purse that she used the previous night when we had dinner with our friends.

I said to her, don't worry, I will access My Account on my phone. Fortunately, I had scanned and uploaded all of our travel documents to Travisa's My Account recently. When we reached the TSA security agent and explained what happened, a supervisor was called to assess the situation.

My wife showed her a copy of her driver's license and passport on my phone, as well as her credit card and insurance card. After seeing all of these documents TSA signed off on her boarding pass and gave her a thorough security check. At a moment's notice we were able to access my wife's personal identification and travel documents from a secure account to verify her identity and to get the green light to continue traveling. My Account helped to save our trip home and maybe in the future it can help yours too.

The Real ID Act, Travisa and You

What is the Real ID Act

After 9/11, the federal government began to look at ways to increase security surrounding state identification cards and driver's licenses, in an attempt to prevent further terrorism and/or unlawful entry into and out of the country.

In 2005, the House of Representatives passed a bill into law called the REAL ID Act. This Act would set certain federal standards upon all drivers' licenses, which are currently regulated by each individual state. After being passed into law, the bill was tabled until 2007, when it was announced that the federal enforcement of the act would be postponed for a period of two years. However, many state governments were slow to support this act, feeling that it not only infringed upon states' rights handed to them by the 10th Amendment, but also created unnecessary cost to taxpayers in order to implement the change. It wasn't until this year that the federal government announced that all states would need to be in compliance with the REAL ID Act by the end of 2017. (http://www.dhs.gov/real-id-public-faqs)

There are only a few states as of now that aren't compliant:
New York, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Louisiana, or American Samoa.

What does this mean for travelers in these states? If you decide to fly, even to visit family in a neighboring state, you will need your Passport! Passports are compliant with the Real ID act and will be able to get you anywhere you want to go. According to Homeland Security "Individuals without licenses from compliant jurisdictions may present alternative forms of identification - such as a U.S. Passport".  (Click here to read more from the Department of Homeland Security)

Travisa will keep monitoring the status of the Real ID Act!

Although the Real ID act has had fluctuating start dates, and is still in the process of being finalized, if you live in a state listed above it is highly recommended you get your Passport now! Why delay a family vacation, or miss out on a business meeting when Travisa can make the passport process painless?

Expedition 196 Posted:

Update: Currently in Zagreb hunkering down trying to get all the remaining visas done in time for my arrival in Central Asia/Middle East in the New Year. If I don't send them in now, I'm not going. So I'm now behind a day on the Expedition. But not to worry, I'll make it up somewhere. There's a lot of work involved with this Expedition and the visas are just one small (but important) part.

THANK YOU to Travisa Visa for your assistance with all of my visas for Expedition 196!

I highly recommend them for all of your travel visa needs.

Follow Expedition 196 of Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to watch her journey traveling the globe on an international expedition to advocate Global Peace and Understanding in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record.

Would You Let Someone Else Pack for You?

Frequent fliers, rejoice: A new service aims to take the hassles of luggage out of your hands-literally.

It's the blight of every business traveler: You're on the road for the better part of a week, and when you're finally home, you're rushing to the dry cleaner so your suit can be ready before your next departure. Enter DUFL , a new online service that may end packing as we know it-and let you travel luggage-free. After you sign up, DUFL will ship you a large suitcase to fill with your go-to essentials: suits, shoes, toiletries, gym clothes. They'll store everything until your next trip. Then, you'll pack via the app (say, if a workout is unlikely, they won't pack your running shoes), and your DUFL luggage will be shipped directly to your hotel (within the United States). Upon checkout, print out a shipping label, leave your luggage with the front desk, and it'll be sent back to the warehouse, where your clothes are laundered, dry-cleaned, and stored-and ready for business
