Green Lent: Consider a Carbon Fast
Yesterday was the first day of Lent, a time of prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving and self denial. Generally, people talk about giving up chocolate or alcohol or soda for Lent. TTF suggests sacrificing carbon to expand the impact beyond yourself - your actions impact people and wildlife on the front lines of climate change. Our Green Lent program, updated by intern Kelsey Larson, provides a daily suggestion for something on your carbon fast diet.
Day 1: Wednesday, February 22 - Decrease your thermostat by a few degrees to reduce the amount of energy used to heat your house, and to serve as a reminder of the commitment you are making for Lent.
Day 2: Thursday, February 23 - Think about what areas of your life are causing the greatest emissions. Use an emissions calculator to see how you are doing.. |

Spirit of Earth Day
TTF is taking the lead on this year's Spirit of Earth Day event on April 22, 2012, at the Museum of the Rockies. If you would like to participate on the planning committee or as a sponsor, please let us know! Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 7th at 8:30am (RSVP if you can join us). The event will coordinate with the Gallatin Earth Celebration - the umbrella for all Earth Day events organized by Montana State University and the City of Bozeman. Additionally, we are partnering with the Community Mediation Center's Peacemaker Awards to emphasize community dialogue on conservation issues. In fact, TTF is the honored organization at this year's awards and the theme is Conservation is an Act of Peace!
We thank the Gilhousen Family Foundation for their generous support of this project.

Save the Dates!
Bozeman is hosting Montana's first TEDx event on March 23rd. And, Betsy Quammen will be one of the presenters! The program will be streaming live...we'll keep you posted on the link to stream it live online before it hits the TED website (or, you might be lucky enough to get one of the 100 tickets to see everyone in person). For more information, see www.tedxbozeman.com.
Betsy Quammen will also be speaking at the 2012 Peacemaker Awards on April 22nd - TTF is being honored and the event theme is Conservation is an Act of Peace! This event, held at Bozeman's Museum of the Rockies, is free and open to the public.

First, we're pleased to announce that Nawang Euden, our program coordinator in Bhutan, has initiated research for a Snow Leopard Toolkit to be published this summer. This project is funded in part by the Snow Leopard Network. Check out this rare glimpse of a snow leopard, recently shared by Bhutan's Department of Forest and Park Services and the Bhutan Foundation.
Next, if you haven't seen Dr. Zeb Hogan's Monster Fish of Mongolia, it is currently recirculating on the National Geographic WILD channel. OR, you can conveniently watch it right here! This episode was filmed several years ago and includes many members of the Taimen science team. It is interesting to see the Dayan Derkh Monastery in its infancy - now this environmental education center is operated by Lama Tseren Ochir (one of the monk boys that attended school in UB on a TTF scholarship) and the monastic complex includes a dormitory, kitchen, classroom, bathrooms and an informational kiosk!

About Us
By invitation from global partners, TTF assists religious, scientific and local leaders to collaborate and manage issues of sustainable community development and wildlife habitat protection. Protection of native species, lands and waters succeeds when communities are informed, engaged and guided through traditional beliefs and cultural cadence. Each project TTF undertakes joins culture and conservation. TTF is a secular organization that recognizes the immense power of religious beliefs and the influence of faith on community actions.
