The Trust Factor
Tip of the month:
You must build trust through your actions in order to build your business.

Greetings!

People are flaky. It's not like they try to be...but sometimes good intentions are not married to follow-through. It takes a lot for a business owner, or company employee to set a goal, or make a commitment, and then follow-through on it.

Reasons for lack of follow-through:
  • Disorganization
  • Lack of direction from leadership
  • Misunderstanding of messages
  • Fear
  • Inexperience
  • Perceived low pay grade
  • Lack of empowerment

But, follow-through is critical, because it builds trust. If I say that I will send you an estimate, I will do it. If I have a phone call scheduled, barring an emergency, I will make that call. If a client asks me to represent them at a meeting, I will do my best to speak within their interests. I will be there for my commitments.

It's not always easy for everyone to do this. However, if you are going to build relationships - the foundation of positive public relations - you must be accountable to yourself and others.

Next time a situation arises where you know that it will be difficult or impossible to follow-through, it is best to share that information right away.

Some examples:

"You know, that is a service we don't offer, I can't help you, but I can refer you to someone else." Then, follow-through with a good referral!

"While I'd like to help you with your request, I'm afraid it will cost (me, staff, managers, etc...) too much (time, money, effort, stress), so we are probably not a good fit."

Trust is critical to forward movement with a business. Follow-through with clear communications helps to build trust.

With kind regard,

Public Relations In Action - Case Study
Intelligent Balance Spinal Care
Liberty Lake, WA
Dr. Kim White and office manager Melinda Wright are motivated. They love their chiropractic patients, and they are engaged in building the business. Their passion is to help people with relief from migraines, back pain, misalignment, muscular injury, and more. They are truly committed to being of service to patients.

Due to their motivation, we worked together to develop a Strategic Public Relations Plan for the business. The Plan included: market research, demographics and persona development, SWOT analysis, content assessment, messaging, marketing copy, PR objectives, and tactical marketing implementation.

Through the project we complete a client satisfaction survey, which enlightened the practice on what they were doing well, and areas for improvement.

Now, we are continuing work in the area of earned media (free placement for your business in the media), along with paid advertising opportunities. Another area for growth is through sponsorships. At the office they are also working on owned media (media like newsletters, social media, and the website) that they own and can keep current.

Each tactic that was a part of the Implementation Plan has been tracked and is being measured to ensure success.
