Kaitlyn Estopare '18 was crowned Spirit Queen during the homecoming dance on September 29. Runners up were, in order, Maggie Michalski '21, Brooke Westcott '20 and Natalie Bianchino '19 .

Our annual Cardboard Village event to benefit St. Patrick Center is currently featured on their website! Thank you to the students and co-workers who participated in this annual overnight homelessness experience on October 13. Read more here .
The Feast of St. Ursula (October 21) was observed on October 19 at UA with a special liturgy planned by the sophomores, the installation of our 2017-18 Student Council members (click here for a complete list), and the third annual #CutPassLove hair drive to benefit Children With Hair Loss . Sixty-two students donated a total of 397 inches of hair, and many others opted to make a cash donation to have a pink feather woven into their locks.
Megan Paul '21 sang the national anthem during the October 21 St. Louis Ambush Fan-Fest held at the Family Arena. The dance and cheer teams also performed for the crowd during the event.

Game of Thrones: The Rock Musical - An Unauthorized Parody recently opened in New York City. Erin Stegeman Marrero '01 (right) serves as producer, director and music writer for the show that has enjoyed two runs on the west coast before its off-Broadway debut. Congratulations, Erin! Fauxgerty , owned by Chrissy Fogerty '08 , was named as one of 28 Neighborhood Businesses of the Year by St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson during the Mayor's Business Celebration Luncheon, an annual event recognizing business contributions to the city's growth and development in the past year. Anna Bergamini '09 will be presented with the 2017 Young Alumna Serviam Award at the Thanksgiving liturgy on November 21. Anna is a special education teacher in the Ferguson-Florissant School District where she not only spends time in the classroom as a teacher but also as an assistant track coach at McCluer North High School. She serves more than just the educational needs of her students, from holding food drives to creating strategies for a better family life and student success. Anna is also very involved with Whole Kids Outreach and has organized a group of young people, Big Kids for Whole Kids, to fund-raise and host toy drives.

Athletic Achievements

TENNIS
  • Sarah Dreyer '18 and Chandler Hannigan '18 placed third in the district doubles tournament at the end of September (right).
  • Sarah and Chandler were also named to the MWAA All-Conference Second Team with Courtney Leigh '21 and Alyson Winkelmann '19 as Honorable Mentions.

FIELD HOCKEY
  • Rosie Pellegrini '18 and Kayla O'Toole '18 were selected to represent UA during the recent annual Senior Field Hockey game
CROSS COUNTRY
  • The team placed first during the Priory Cross Country Invitational in early October. Individual medals were awarded to Dani Wright '18 (first place), Cat Dulle '18 (second place), Elizabeth Edmunds '20 (third place), Ella Castro '21 (eighth place), Maggie Laux '21 (14th place), Kelly Zipfel '20 (19th place).
  • Dani went on to take first place in the MWAA Conference Meet (right) and 14th in the Sectional Meet, and will compete in the State Championship on November 4.
  • Dani and Cat were named to the MWAA All-Conference First Team and Elizabeth was named to the Second Team.
GOLF
  • Isabel DeGrand '19 and Bess Ramsey '19 competed in the MSHSAA State Golf Championships on October 9 and 10.
  • Kaitlyn LaKamp '18 (right) is the 2017 recipient of the Jerry Ray Jr. Golf Memorial Scholarship. Selected for her good character, academic performance and community service, she may use the $2,500 scholarship at the college or university of her choice.
  • Isabel, Bess and Kaitlyn were named to the MWAA All-Conference Team with Caroline Kozeny '19, Brooke Granada '18 and Natalie Bianchino '19 as Honorable Mentions.

If you have not done so already, this is an ideal time to review your daughter's first quarter grades and plan for a successful second quarter. Please contact your daughter's counselor if you have any concerns.

If you have not scheduled a meeting with your daughter's counselor, please refer to the email that has been sent to sign up for a date and time. The meetings will be held during the second quarter.

Happy Birthday to Ursuline Academy! As we celebrate 169 years , it seems so appropriate to remember and honor all of the Ursuline Sisters, students, co-workers, parents and alumnae who have been part of the tapestry of Ursuline Academy.

Each person who has walked through the doors of UA has brought his/her own special gifts and talents. Together, as a community, a beautiful story continues to be written, with new chapters being added every year. READ MORE

What's going on in the classroom?

With Spirit Week falling the same time as National Banned Books Week , the English department celebrated the world's challenged books the following week instead (right). Activities included a Banned Books Trading Card Contest in which over 100 students participated. The top ten Trading Cards will be printed as bookmarks to be handed out by the department during Open House.
Mrs. Thelma Hartnett spoke to freshman theology classes on October 5 during a special " Thursday with Thelma ." Mrs. Hartnett (left) shared stories of her life and years at UA with students as the conclusion of their study of our Ursuline heritage.

The Leadership for Diversity Team hosted its annual High School Diversity Conference on October 25. Participants learned how the impact of media has changed over the years through the aspects of racism, sexism and lookism. The week before, team members Anna Gonsalves '19 and Lucie Ramsey '19 chaired the Junior Diversity Day which focused on cultural stereotypes and prejudice. They were assisted by fellow juniors Rose Stinehart, Katie Kraus, Mallory Schanuel, Olivia Meyer and Carole Schuster .

The Concert Choir enjoyed a one-week residency with Mr. Brian O'Neill, Scottish musician, teacher, songwriter, record producer and novelist. The residency culminated with the annual Scots Song Concert held in the chapel on October 27 which featured traditional and contemporary folk music. Those students who participated were N atalie Appelbaum '18, Liz Bingaman '19, Gabby Cadieux '18, Grace Evanoski '21, Maddie Grady '18, Erin Hinshaw '19, Maggie Hougland '20, Marygrace Hummel '18, Ally Imo '20, Sophia Laaker '21, Emma Llewellyn '21, Maggie Molner '18, Victoria Naeger '21, Grace Nolan '19, Hannah Patterson '21, Lauren Robinson '21, Brooke Schwartz '18, Ellie Smith '18, Sophie Torregrossa '18 and Grace K. Wagner '19 .

Colleen Flynn '18, Gabby Cadieux '18, Paige Piskulich '18, Julia Stahlhuth '18, Rachel White '18 and Jessica Woodward '18 attended yesterday's "teach-in" hosted by the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Fr. Greg Boyle, author of Tattoos on the Heart , is leading a discussion about the Church's teachings on poverty and racism , and the event includes personal testimonies from former gang members as well as small group discussions.
