Lower School:  Mr. James Becomes a U.S. Citizen

Ursuline's Lower School Faculty and Staff couldn't be prouder of one of their own, as they wish a very special congratulations to James Greatorex for becoming a U.S. Citizen! James was born in Sydney, Australia where he lived with his family until the age of 16 . A job transfer for his father brought their family to New Jersey, and further down the road, graduate school for his wife brought them to Delaware. James joined Ursuline's Lower School in 2012, running the Extended Day and Summer Academy program, and has recently been promoted to Director of Auxiliary Programs which encompasses all summer programs and rentals.

On Tuesday, November 21st, James completed the final steps of his application process when he passed his citizenship exam and interview. He will be officially sworn in as a citizen on Thursday, December 7th at the University of Delaware. James would like to thank the Ursuline community for their support and encouragement during the citizenship process and adds, "I'm proud to join you all as an American citizen."

Middle School:  National History Day Essays

The eighth graders have started their journey with their National History Day essays. Revolving around an annual theme, the nationwide contest involves students researching an event during any point in recorded history. The  2017 National History Day theme is "Conflict and Compromise".  Our eighth grade students have chosen topics ranging from "The War of the Roses" to "Women Competing in the Boston Marathon." This project spans months:   collecting research, organizing facts, writing, and re-writing.   The eighth grade is currently using mind maps to help visualize the patterns and connections in their diverse topics.

Upper School:  Cross-Curricular Brain Dissection Project

The senior Psychology students (both Advanced Placement and the Introductory classes) come together with the Human Anatomy and Physiology and the Advanced Placement Biology to dissect a mammalian brain.  The goal of the project is to provide the students with a forum to apply different scientific disciplines and viewpoints from their individual classes.  The structures and functions of the mammalian brain are surprisingly similar from species to species.  Examining the sheep brain allows the students to envision their own brain.  One of the major takeaways we'd like the students to grasp is the inter-related nature of science!

This three-day, student-facilitated retreat is an opportunity to be in community with God and with one another.
