Welsh Stick Chair (far side) handmade by John Porritt

Dear friends,

This summer, there's room for two in the window!
Be seen reading - or conversing about books - in our window for 20 minutes and receive 10% off a book of your choice.

One of the chairs in the window this year is a Welsh Stick Chair handmade by John Porritt who trained in carpentry in North London, Kent and Shrewsbury, England. He and his family moved to Columbia County in 2008.
"I've always worked in wood," he says. "From making little boats of elder wood to sail on the Hampshire streams to making bows and arrows to play in the woods."

Come, take a break, have a seat, read!

And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Oh, your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But until that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With your daddy and mammy standing by
