Notice of Congregational Meeting, August 13, 2017
In July, the Miami Valley Presbytery Committee on Ministry, approved position description for a full-time Associate Pastor and the formation of a search committee for an Associate Pastor for Oxford Presbyterian Church.
This Sunday, August 13th, following our worship service, the congregation will meet to hear a brief report from the Staff Design Team including the proposal to approve the Associate Pastor position description and elect an Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC).  An additional item of business will include the election of the 2017 Nominating Committee that will present a slate of Ruling Elders, Trustees and Deacons in the fall as new church officers for the coming year.
The Staff Design Team created two resources for prayerful consideration by the congregation in advance of the meeting.  These are a rationale and position description for a full-time Associate Pastor.
Both resources are available on our church website at -  http://www.oxfordpresbychurch.org/ - and printed copies will be readily available on Sunday before the meeting.
It is exciting to step out on a continuing journey to enrich our church and our mission to  Seek God, Serve Others, and Share Christs Love with All.
Journey Through the Bible
Bible Study and Discussion will continue this Sunday following a brief time of fellowship. Around 12:00 p.m. join us in the Sanctuary where we'll begin our exploration of scripture together.  All are welcome!
Backpacks for Kids
The Bethesda Christian Community Center is serving about fifty school aged children from the El Por Fin Barrio--one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city.  The mission team traveling to Barranquilla in August is inviting the congregation to join us by sponsoring a backpack filled with school supplies for each child.  Please consider donating $25.00 for a backpack that will contain a notebook, pencils, crayons, erasers, a ruler and color markers.  You can make out a check to Oxford Presbyterian Church and in the memo line write, "Backpacks for Kids". Muchas Gracias!
Journey Through the Bible
Over these later summer months, Race & Ethnicity in the Bible and in our time is the theme for our congregational Journey Through the Bible.
Beginning Friday, September 8 at 4:30 P.M., we will come together for a three-week study using the book, Waking Up White:  Finding Myself in the Story of Race, by Debby Irving.
A child in a tumultuous 1960's, Irving was sheltered from racial tensions in her predominantly white Massachusetts community.  As an adult becoming aware of the racial divide in our nation, she gradually came to understand different perspectives, including truths she never knew existed.
If you would like to order a copy of Waking Up White, please contact the church office.  We will be placing an order through a regional bookseller by Monday, August 21st.
Independent of any prior participation in the Journey Through the Bible, all are welcome to this time of fellowship and conversation.  Please invited your friends and neighbors to each of these opportunities.  As one body of Christ, all are welcome!

Presented by the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, this 12-day conference from April 29-May 12, 2018 is designed for both laity and clergy.  Participants will experience this remarkable and troubled region, encounter its diverse people, explore its rich history and complex current situation, and engage with those who seek its peace.
Registration just opened and already the applicants represent the diversity of the PC(USA) including the current co-moderators of our denomination, the Revs. Denise Anderson and Jan Edmiston.

In the Church Library
This fall marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.  The August/September edition of Presbyterians Today begins a season of reflection on the legacy of the Reformation.  Next time you're in the church library, take time to read one of these articles "Freedom of Religion: How the Reformation Helped Shape the Constitution."

Your Stewardship Matters
We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility.
It's easy to say 'It's not my child, not my community,
not my world, not my problem.'
Then there are those who see the need and respond.
I consider those people my heroes.
