From the desk of Principal Liberty Logan
I am thrilled to review the many summer happenings and updates as we welcome the routine of a new school year for Sumac L-STEM Elementary. Before I dive into the details, please accept my warm congratulations of successful first weeks. Way to go Voyagers!

We begin this year with a multitude of new resources matched to our philosophy of learning. We have brand new English and Spanish Language Arts textbooks for every child and classroom. Our Library Media Center team of district and Sumac staff and volunteers has been busily barcoding and sorting out books and newly adopted materials. Additionally, the Library Media Center has received a renovated new look! The direct support of our wonderful PFA now adorns the spectacular floors and vibrantly painted walls. The Library Media Center's beautiful environment is matched with the inclusion of over 400 new Spanish language titles ready for circulation .

More books on campus is a theme this month! These resources are offered through the support of each and every one of you! #SumacGives allows our PFA to fund the Library Media Center Coordinator and shelves. Thank you so much for your contribution, whether one dollar or a thousand.

Sumac is also the direct recipient of Title I grant funds procured by the LVUSD Education Services department. As a result, we will receive complete classroom libraries for every classroom on campus to support our students’ selection of “just right books” in both English and Spanish. The collections, to be delivered on site at the end of this month, will stock each one of our classrooms with over 200 unique titles .

Reading improves literacy skills and reading engaging and student selected books at the right level improves those skills at an even greater rate. Every title is a reason to read each evening with your child. Enjoy your nightly voyages! We look forward to hearing the stories in the morning each school day.
