Malone Intern Thriving at Jackson Friends

The following is a news brief published by Malone University on March 29, 2016. It highlights the relationship between Malone students and EFC-ER's internship program.

Music Ministry Major Levi Hundley '16 is interning this semester at Jackson Friends Church. Family and school connections have made this a transformative semester. "I sing in the choir, play in the orchestra, run the sound booth, and do anything else they need," Hundley said. "I feel more prepared for a job in ministry." Hundley's dad, Rickey '80, grew up with Jackson Friends' lead pastor, David Tebbs '78, and the men went to college at Malone together. Hundley, a member of the Evangelical Friends church in his hometown of Danville, Virginia, feels at home at Jackson Friends. Hundley is also drawing on his experiences at Malone to inform his ministry. "Through Dr. Peterson's classes, I've learned that worship isn't just an event that you go to every week but a constant outpouring of your daily life," Hundley said. After graduation, Hundley plans to return to his hometown church and serve in music ministry, and eventually would like to become a head pastor.

"The Stump of Jesse" by Former EFC-ER Pastor, Wally White

Wally White served as a pastor at Valleyview Evangelical Friends Church for 13 years and has published another book.

"The Stump of Jesse" is Christian fiction, set sometime in the future after the U.S. Supreme Court has handed down a decision that dramatically limits public worship in America, limiting it to at home, with family members only. Pastor Warren Isaac Watts has spent a number of years preaching a weekly message of hope, but to an empty and deteriorating sanctuary.
