Changing Our Story: Changing Our World

There's always a story. It's all stories, really. The sun coming up every day is a story. Everything's got a story in it.
Change the story, change the world.
Terry Pratchett

It seems like every day we are being bombarded with stories of bad news from every corner of the earth. Wars, bombings, climate calamities, raping's, wronging's, economic and social disasters - it appears that we are headed over a social, economic and environmental cliff and all will be lost. That's just what they thought before Columbus had the courage to test the prevailing story of his time.... the story that the earth was flat! If you sailed too far you were doomed to a terrible death of falling through space for eternity. Seems like a silly story now that we know the earth is roundish. What is it that we don't know now, that the knowing of which could transform our lives and our future?

What if we knew we had the power to change the story of our time? Would we have the courage to go against the prevailing world-view of death, disaster and destruction? Would we let go of our complacency, complaints and collusion with the forces of stagnation, separation and eco-suicide? Well the truth is out! We can change the direction we're headed, by changing our story. The evidence is overwhelming on a personal, relational, communal, national and global scale. The wisdom of the earth is awakening within us and the story is transforming before our eyes (especially if we keep them open for the miraculous). So how can we support the manifestation of the transformation of our prevailing reality into a earth friendly, egalitarian, and inter-connected species of earth caretakers and protectors of the web of life?

If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course,
on where you stop your story.
Orson Welles

Holiday Freedom: Why we Dance?

For me the holiday season is a time I most feel the cultural constraints that leave me feeling less than free. So many expectations! Should I buy presents, for whom and what, can I afford to get something for everyone I love, will they like what I get them, what if they get something for me and I don't buy them a present, what if I get them a present, will they feel bad because they didn't get one for me, will I visit my parents, siblings, in-laws or just stay home for holiday dinners? What will that do to my relationship with my parents if I don't go for Christmas, Hanukah, New Year's dinner/party this year? Should I go to church?

Of course it is also a time of love and connection with family and friends. How can I let go and feel free from the feelings of obligation, the pressures of conformity and the expectations of others?

It takes great discipline to be a free Spirit!

These stories, norms and expectations can lead to frustration, depression and upset if we don't have a way to shake them off. How can we alleviate the anxiety of holiday depression? By dancing full out we reclaim our creative self-expression! I have found that letting go into the dance is where I really find my freedom and drop from my head into my heart.

Freedom is not about control it is about moving with what ever arises in the moment. Movement is medicine that teaches us how to respond to what ever arises in the moment. We are being bombarded by information in our culture and it accumulates in our minds if we don't have an avenue for release. The 5Rhythms is a practice that teaches us how to let go into the space of freedom from the inside out. It allows us to connect with our center, our personal power, our truth, our roots, our ancestors and Source.

Although I am still in Canada I have been blessed to find you awesome teachers each Sunday. I am glad to see that most of you are continuing to come enjoy this safe space to step into your freest most authentic selves.

I will be back on February 7 th to dance, dj and play with you at the Sunday Sweat Your Prayer. Wishing you an awesome holiday and a year filled with love, joy and peace of mind.

Organizational Shamanism
I am currently writing a book that integrates my shamanic practices  with three decades of Organizational Development work. Organizational Shamanism (OS) is the practice and application of ancient shamanic techniques to solve contemporary organizational and community challenges. It is a whole systems approach to gathering information that can help us to revitalize and energize the spirit of our organizations and tap into new levels of creativity, intuition and wisdom not available with contemporary perception. OS focuses on transforming inner states of consciousness to bring about outer change, and taps into a creative potential beyond limiting beliefs and assumptions.
I am looking for organizations that are interested in trying these new approaches to solving organizational issues. If you and your organization or any one you know are open to applying this pioneering work in your company to bring about organizational change please give me a call. Or email 530.277.0937 or

Change the Story, Change the Future
By David Korten

We humans live by stories, says David Korten, and the stories that now govern our society set us on a path to certain self-destruction. In this profound new book, Korten shares the results of his search for a story that reflects the fullness of human knowledge and understanding and provides a guide to action adequate to the needs of our time.

Korten calls our current story Sacred Money and Markets. Money, it tells us, is the measure of all worth and the source of all happiness. Earth is simply a source of raw materials. Inequality and environmental destruction are unfortunate but unavoidable. Although many recognize that this story promotes bad ethics, bad science, and bad economics, it will remain our guiding story until replaced by one that aligns with our deepest understanding of the universe and our relationship to it.

To guide our path to a viable human future, Korten offers a Sacred Life and Living Earth story grounded in a cosmology that affirms we are living beings born of a living Earth itself born of a living universe. Our health and well-being depend on an economy that works in partnership with the processes by which Earth's community of life maintains the conditions of its own existence-and ours. Offering a hopeful vision, Korten lays out the transformative impact adopting this story will have on every aspect of human life and society.

"Change the Story, Change the Future will transform your view of
reality and human purpose. One of the most important books of our
time, from one of the most brilliant thinkers of our era, it hands us
the keys to a world in which all people live in creative, peaceful, and
coproductive partnership with one another and with nature. Read it,
ponder its message, and spread the word!"

-Thom Hartmann, progressive internationally syndicated talk show
host and bestselling author

"We can grow by simply lis-
tening, the way the tree on
that ridge listens its branches
to the sky, the way blood
listens its flow to the site
of a wound, the way you
listen like a basin when
my head so full of grief
can't look you in the eye.
We can listen our way out
of howling, the way the heart
can soften the wolf we keep

Sweet Darkness

When your eyes are tired
The world is tired also.

When your vision has gone
No part of the world can find you.

Time to go into the dark
Where the night has eyes
To recognize its own.

There you can be sure
You are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb tonight.

The night will give you a horizon
Further than you can see.

You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.

Give up all the other worlds
Except the one to which you belong.

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
Confinement of your aloneness to learn

Anything or anyone
That does on bring you alive

is too small for you.
