Next Seven Days
First Sunday Food Collection
1st Sunday of each month prior to the
9:00 a.m. worship service
On the first Sunday of each month, we collect food donations for those in our community struggling to make ends meet. Cans (beans, tuna, chicken, soups) and boxes (cereal, pasta, rice) of food you bring to church will be delivered to Hanover Presbyterian Food Closet and St. Stephen's Lutheran Food Pantry. Jim and Polly Carter happily collect your donations. They park their car in the church parking lot next to the stairs leading to the 1502 entrance.

"Girl Talk" Women's Book Group
Thursday, March 8, 10:00 a.m.
in the Ruth Christie Room
God's Hotel is author Dr. Victoria Sweet's story of her time at San Francisco's last alms house for the indigent sick. In the relatively low-tech but human-paced environment, these extraordinary patients and her discovery of the medieval medicine of Hildegard of Bengen transformed the way Dr. S. understood her work, evoking an older idea of medicine, where the body is a garden to be tended rather than a machine to be fixed. Whether you have read the book or not, come join us.

News to Note
Our Story - Mary Kay and
Dick Haden
We joined Westminster in September 1980. We have found here a caring, supportive community that has helped us raise our children, celebrate many joyous occasions, and ease the burden of times of stress and sorrow. Our faith has grown here through inspiring preaching and education and through the example of other members. We have had many opportunities to be directly involved in community and world mission and in service to our church. The loving support we feel each time we attend worship or participate in activities here causes us to look forward to our next visit. We have been blessed beyond measure through our involvement in this WPC community. - Mary Kay and Dick Haden
Saturday Breakfast Help Needed
Saturday Breakfast is working hard to have a "Plan B" when their current location is sold. We have eliminated SAMs and are looking into Grace Methodist. We have received two more suggestions - Bethel AME and Ezion UMC. We need two individuals to volunteer to contact them. If you are able to help by contacting one of these churches, please let us know, then go ahead and make the initial contact. Your help will be appreciated by all who benefit from Saturday Breakfast. - Sue Weissinger and Tenney Wheatley
Volunteers Needed
Questions: If you and your family were suddenly in a financial crisis, would you seek help? Would you want to keep your family safe while you got back on your feet? That is what a faithful group of Westminster members do when we house four Family Promise families for three or four weeks a year. But the faithful group needs more volunteers! Would you consider taking a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. shift for this fantastic mission? Marlys Kerr ([email protected] or 302-588-3759) is anxious to help you consider the possibility. Will you take a few minutes to contact her?
Congo Partnership
Westminster has a partner parish, Kamalumba Ditalala, in The Democratic Republic of Congo; New Castle Presbytery's partner is Kananga Presbytery. Several churches here have sister parishes there and there have been several cross-cultural trips. Presbyterians have been in Congo since 1890 when missionaries Lapsley and Sheppard arrived. The Presbyterian Church has a profound presence and influence in Congo and now three mission co-worker couples are serving there. We Christians no longer try to convert the Congolese as their faith is extraordinary and powerful. Our partnership is two-way: we learn from them and they learn from us.
Souper Bowl of Caring: A New Record High!
What an amazing Super Bowl Sunday and Souper Bowl of Caring! We collected $1,017.25, which is the first time we broke the $1,000 mark. Many, many thanks to all who gave so generously and so joyfully. Our Souper Bowl of Caring collection is always divided between St. Stephens Food Closet and the Hanover Food Pantry, and this year's collection provides gracious donations to help fund their ministries with families in need.

Make Us New

Do not say the world
is a place of decay. Do not say the old
should get out of the way.
There is but one God
who makes all things new:
my country, my church,
and us, too.
