See what's happening at White Lick Elementary
September 2, 2016
From the Desk of Mrs. Wise
Happy Friday! We had a great week! Today students had the opportunity to attend our Step-a-thon Pep Rally to learn more about our most important fundraiser that our PTO does this year, our White Lick Step-a-thon!!! Students are encouraged to get pledges from familiar people including friends, neighbors, and family members. To make it even easier, each student can set up their own webpage to promote the event and secure pledges from out-of-town friends. Our big day is Friday, September 23rd!!! All students and staff will receive a White Lick Step-a-thon t-shirt and students will have an opportunity to participate in a really cool obstacle course that day. All of the money raised helps support our PTO and all the great things they do for our students and staff throughout the school year. The money raised pays for all of our students' field trips, roller skating for grades 3-5, resources for classroom teachers, and much, much more! We appreciate your support!
I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe holiday weekend! We look forward to seeing everyone back to school on Tuesday, Sept. 6th!
Mrs. Susan Wise

Body Safety Parent Preview Night: Tuesday, November 1 from 6:00 - 7:00 at Eagle Elementary (cafeteria)
Parents are invited to attend this meeting to learn about the age-appropriate lessons that will be taught to your children this school year by the elementary school counselors. Unfortunately, recent counts show that sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe. As a result, our children need to be taught assertiveness and self-protection skills to prevent such tragedies. This program is presented in a non-threatening, informative way.

Parents, please join us so that you can see the videos and hear about the lessons that will be presented at each grade level. For the lessons we will be using the same videos as last year for all grades with the exception of 4th grade.  A new video will be used this year.

Body and Personal Safety Program
The school counselor will be conducting body and personal safety lessons with students in grades K-5 starting the week of November 14.  Unfortunately, sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe.  Through these lessons, we will provide children the opportunity to learn assertive self-protection skills, differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate touches, and identify people to whom they can go for help. Students in grades K - 3 will learn the appropriate names of male and female private body parts, and anatomically correct dolls will be shown.  All students will participate in the program.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Larkey or Mrs. Wise.
Parents, please check the Flyer Folder for important information regarding body safety and how to discuss this topic with your child.

STEP-A-THON - Today was our Pep Assembly Kick Off! Mr. Kelley got the kids pumped about the big event on Friday, September 23rd!

Step-A-Thon is the primary PTO fundraiser that sets the budget for the entire school year. If the event is successful, the PTO is able to pay for field trip expenses, provide updated technology for each class room, give support to our teachers, offer student recognition programs, reinforcement and entertainment throughout the year. Our goal for the 2016 event is $22,000.

Fundraising packets are in your student's backpacks and you are encouraged to get going on asking friends and family to donate! We want our students safe, so please no door to door requests. Stick with people you know! For the second year, we partnered with The Get Movin Crew! Help your student create a personalized fundraising webpage that can be sent out to friends and family who would rather make online donations! It is fun for students to see donations come in and their goal go up! Visit thegetmovincrew.com and look for the Get Registered Parent Login yellow star!! If you signed up last year, you can use the same account, it is super easy!

We will have PRIZES for individual top fundraisers, top fundraiser classes, top lap leaders and lap leading classes! We want to award as many students as possible for fundraising and participation efforts!!! After all, Step-A-Thon is about getting up and having fun!!!

VOLUNTEERS are needed to be at each of the stations and assist the students as they make their way through the obstacle course!  Grades K-2 are in the morning and 3-5 in the afternoon. Sign up to volunteer for Step-A-Thon at signupgenius.com/go/20f044ca5ac2ea2f58-stepathon1

The 16th Annual Yankee Candle fundraiser for the Brownsburg Education Foundation (BEF) is around the corner.  On Friday, September 9th, each student will receive a catalog to share with family and friends. The BEST and EASIEST way to order is online and you will find the instructions for sending the link for online ordering to your family and friends in the packet. Online orders will be delivered directly to the one ordering by mail in 2-3 weeks. If the paper order form is used, the order form and money need to be returned by September 28th to your school. You will have to pick up and distribute anything ordered using the paper order form on November 8th & 9th at the BCSC Maintenance Facility at 550 Airport Road.  Proceeds from this fundraiser go toward teacher educational grants and student scholarships that are given out each year by the BEF whose mission is to encourage and support creativity, innovation, and excellence that will enhance the educational community of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation.  Thank you for your support of BEF!
