November is a time for us to reflect on the things that we are thankful for. I am thankful for so many things. I think the older I get the more thankful I have become. I realized that life is but a vapor and that I should not take it for granted. I am so grateful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for taking my place on the cross and dying for my sins and giving me eternal life with Him in heaven. I thank the Lord for my family that he has blessed me with, as I know that all good things come from Him. I cherish every moment I spend with each of my family, especially my 3 grands. I am thankful for my church, Clements Baptist Church, where I am challenged to grow in my walk with the Lord. I am thankful for my job at Woodmont Baptist Church, where I can use the gifts the Lord has given me to serve Him. I could go on and on about all the material blessings the Lord has given me like my home, cars, furniture, running water, clothes, food, etc. I know we could all make a list a mile long. 

I also realize that there are so many people in the world, and even in our community, that do not feel like they have a lot to be thankful for because they are hurting from lack of food, loneliness, sickness, depression, being abused, being homeless, or lost a loved one, etc. May we be mindful of those in need and share the love of Christ with them in tangible ways. 

One way you can share is through the Thanksgiving Basket ministry by donating money to help buy food for a family in need, or by bringing your family to help deliver the baskets. This is a great way to teach your children to show love and compassion to others.

Dear Church,
 
Recently I was given a gift that took me immediately back to my childhood. It was a stack of vinyl records given to me by Kevin Lamb. When I was a child my parents had a record player and I would listen to it for hours. The Beatles, Ray Stevens, Lee Greenwood, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons were some of the go-to hits for my childhood. Once I was given these it brought back a flood of memories, good times, and some great music. Since listening to these albums, I have noticed some unique things about listening to an album on vinyl:
  1. The Entire Work - I am more likely to listen to an entire album on vinyl. I just set the needle down and it plays. In today's world of streaming services, iPhones, and music on demand people can go straight to the song they want. They just hear the hits, their favorites, and whatever they want. Our Christian walk is often like this. We only want our favorite Bible verses, our favorite sermon topics, or our favorite happenings. However; we need to appreciate the entire work of God. As Paul reminds them in Acts 20:27, "For I did not shrink back from declaring to you the whole will of God." Sometimes the plan of God for us is uncomfortable, a road of suffering, or a fiery trial. The good news is that all of this is for His glory and conforming us into Christ.
  2. The Classics - The records I was given were classics. Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Barry Mannilow, and The Doobie Brothers just to name a few. It reminded me of some great songs and works by these artists. In our Christian walk we can often become mesmerized by the now, the present, or the new. This has reminded me to take the time to listen, read, and spend time with the classic works of the Christian faith. The early church fathers, the works of Spurgeon, the works of Tozer, and the works of Graham. These men loved the Word, the Lord, and their writings show a rich history of God's faithfulness in the good and the bad.
  3. The Flip-Side - When the record stops and those four or five songs are over, there is this unique silence. Then I remember there is another side that continues the work. In my Christian walk, I have been in situations where things with the Lord were good then seemed to suddenly stop. This is followed by a unique silence, sometimes it feels as if the Lord is distant or just silent (not His Word, but just a time to persevere in seeking Him). Then, there is a moment, we will call it the flip-side. Suddenly He speaks through His word and His Spirit. The Work of God and of grace continue and He is faithful, He provides, and He comforts. He is good. So as Galatians 6:9 says," I do not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest."
Enjoy the Lord, all of His work. Enjoy how the Lord has worked through faithful people (even in this church and in your life). Enjoy the Lord's faithfulness, even the times of searching and seeking the Lord, knowing He's there, He's faithful, and He's good.

How Is My Offering Processed When I Give To Woodmont Baptist Church?
 
Giving can take place in many forms to the church. Through the collection plate on Sunday mornings, mailing a check to the church office, giving on-line electronically and in the coming days we hope to add "Text to Give" as an additional option. I would like to focus this month on the processes that are used at Woodmont when you give to the Lord's work.
 
Over the years we have developed policies and guidelines to ensure the confidentiality and accuracy of receiving tithes and offerings at Woodmont. The following are some of the safeguards and internal controls that we use:
  1. We have two signatures required on every check in which the administrator and church treasurer sign and review.  
  2. We have two church approved ushers take the Sunday morning offering to the church office to place in the safe or give directly to the stewardship counting team.
  3. The stewardship committee consists of 9 members that serve three years with a third rotating off each year. This committee forms four counting teams that rotate each week on Sunday morning counting of offerings.
  4. The counting team counts the offering in a locked secure office during the morning service with our church security team on the premise monitoring our property and hallways with video cameras.
  5. The following is a Checklist For The Stewardship When Counting Money from the stewardship committee guidelines manual.
    1. "Verify that the contents of the offering envelopes are identical to the amounts written on the envelopes and that the amounts are written on the offering envelopes.
    2. All checks received are immediately endorsed with a rubber stamp.
    3. Use the summary sheet to list the various amount totals using account numbers.
    4. Make copies of checks not using offering envelopes.
    5. Promptly take the deposit to the bank depository after both counters have signed and verified the summary sheet and amount totals."

6. The bank counts the deposits on Monday morning and ensures the deposit amounts match.

7. Office Collections - Any cash or checks collected during the week through the office will be taken and placed in an envelope with the appropriate account number and  placed in the safe or secure cabinet.


 

Next month I will share additional guidelines Woodmont uses in record keeping, reports, controls and designated giving.

Thank you for helping make the Shoebox Packing Party, "Nativity to the Nations" a success. Two-hundred and one shoeboxes were packed, and your involvement (praying, donating, packing, etc.) was/is much appreciated.
 
There have been some inquiries about packing shoeboxes on your own. It is definitely NOT too LATE to pack a gift-filled shoebox for Operation Christmas Child, and there are pre-wrapped, empty shoeboxes on a table in the WC Lobby for your convenience. They contain labels/brochures and rubber bands. Feel free to pick up one (or more) if you desire. If you just need labels/brochures and rubber bands, those are also available on the table. Please return shoebox gifts by Wednesday, November 7.  The suggested donation for shipping is $9 per box. Checks may be made payable to Woodmont, or to Samaritan's Purse. One check may be written for multiple boxes.

 Guatemala Mission Trip

Be in prayer for our Guatemala mission team as they are on their way to Guatemala today, they left out at 1:30 AM this morning. Children's Ministry 

The children's department is really thankful for our church family! Especially right after our 2 big events. Because of the Nativity To the Nations night, 201 children will get to hear the gospel and have a Christmas because of our work together for the kingdom.

I hate I wasn't able to be at Trunk or Treat, but I've heard that we served around 600 hot dogs! Which means that many people were given the treat of a hands-on interaction with the Gospel!

I am so thankful that Woodmont is kingdom minded! It's a beautiful thing to watch the body use their different talents and abilities so that Jesus' name can be high and lifted up!

In this season of thankfulness, I encourage you with Philippians 4:8, which says; " Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things." And Colossians 3:2 which says, " Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things." If we keep focused on who God is, and what He has given us, we will never run out of things to be thankful for!

55 and Older Join Us For These Upcoming Events...


Monday, November  5 at 9:00  a.m. we will tour the New Hospital. The buses are full and the deadline has passed for this tour, but on Wednesday,  November 7, there will be another Senior Tour. You may call ECM and be put on the list for the Tour.


There will be no luncheon for November, we will pack the Thanksgiving Baskets on Friday, November 16, at 5:00 p.m.  We will have a meal after the packing.  Please sign up in the breezeway for the meal which will cost $6 per person. 
Y ou may pay the night of the meal.  If you sign up and cannot attend, please pay Frances Moore or Jim Green.  Delivery of the Baskets will be Sunday afternoon on November 18. Mark this date on your calendar and plan to join us for a fun night.



Game Day will be Thursday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at East Campus.  Come join the games and fellowship.
