While BI and Data Visualization is our business, my first career was (and my main hobby still is) radio. Which leads to the snippet of a conversation I had yesterday with a Chief Engineer at a radio station that I volunteer for about a piece of music scheduling software: "It's great. Expensive monthly subscription.”
This comes as we just sold our first Tableau annual subscription to a customer last week. Tableau is joining Microsoft, Adobe, and an ever-increasing cadre of vendors who are only offering software on an annual subscription basis (but, always priced “per month” to make the numbers look lower). Beside lower up-front pricing, the benefits include things like “can use operating instead of capital budget,” “can turn off when employees leave,” and so forth.
