Elephant Refuge North America is coming!
Countdown to a new day for rescues
in  U.S. is on!

We are BEYOND excited to report that EAI has found land that will be the home of Elephant Refuge North America (ERNA) , our new elephant retirement, rehabilitation and education center!

EAI has signed the escrow contract and the sale will close in early November -  67 days and counting!

We will wait to announce ERNA's location until the sale closes. But what we can tell you is that it's in the Southeast U.S. and both the land and the climate are tailor-made for elephants!

Fundraising off to a strong start

Thanks to YOU, our dedicated supporters, as of August 30, we've raised $834,667  of the $2.4M purchase price of the land. We're more than ONE - THIRD of the way there!

But before we can finalize the sale in November, we must raise another $1,565,333.

This land is an elephant paradise -- 850 acres filled with lush pastures, dense forests, spring-fed lakes and soul-reviving privacy.

The land's topography and climate will ensure that each elephant who calls ERNA home will thrive.

Think of how much we've accomplished together over the last six years!
Thanks to your support, EAI has gone from one groundbreaking accomplishment to another :
  • Designing and building the first solar powered chain-free corral in Asia.
  • Freeing 106 captive-held elephants from chains in Nepal, Thailand and India.
  • Enabling Nepal to become the first government to end the use of chains on female elephants and their babies.
  • Giving working elephants in Nepal,Thailand, and India their first chance to live in compatible social groups in spacious chain-free corrals.
  • Training mahouts in foot care and humane methods of training and handling.
  • Helping Nepal's oldest and most prestigious conservation resort discontinue elephant rides and the use of chains, thus creating the most progressive elephant program of any resort in Asia.
Now, will you help break ground on EAI's newest project, Elephant Refuge North America?
Together we'll create a new day for elephant rescues in the U.S.!

Please share our news with everyone you know who cares about the welfare of captive elephants in the U.S.
EAI in the News

Earlier this year, Terra Mater Magazine, Austria's equivalent to National Geographic, sent a writer and photographer to cover the work of EAI founder Carol Buckley in Nepal. They found a woman changing the lives of elephants and mahouts alike.  Read the article (in the original German or in translation) here .
