SOUTHERN REGION  -  ORDER OF THE ARROW
MARCH 2013
OA High Adventure spots still available...

OA High Adventure is one of the premier youth opportunities for Arrowmen to participate in during the summer months. This program offers Arrowmen the chance to go any of the high adventure bases for a fraction of the cost, and be able to provide service to that base.

There are still spots available for all of the high adventure bases. If you are looking for something to do this summer seriously consider this program. Also check with your section to see if they provide a scholarship fund for OAHA attendees, most do!

OA Unit of Excellence Award...

As the primary platform where the Scouting program is delivered to youth, the unit is the most vital and important level of the BSA for the Order to support.

The Order of the Arrow Unit of Excellence Award seeks to identify those units, and the leaders within them, who excel at incorporating the OA into their annual planning. This award is intended to provide a tool for lodges to recognize, provide incentive, and operationalize unit-level participation in Order of the Arrow programs.

The OA Unit of Excellence Award criteria recognize units that invite the lodge to conduct quality unit elections, participate in lodge events and meetings, and operate a complete OA Troop/Team Representative program. Our hope is that units that complete these criteria will benefit from the support programs that the Order of the Arrow has implemented to strengthen unit-delivered program. This recognition program, along with other tools for unit support, should be distributed and promoted to Scoutmaster/Coach, OA Troop/Team Representatives and Advisers, and chapter election teams to include in communication to units.

Lodge spotlight: Coosa Lodge...

The lodge spotlight article for this eVoice goes to Coosa Lodge!

Coosa Lodge out of Birmingham, AL is hosting a council wide Powwow and are inviting any registered Scout, even if they are not in the OA. This program is promoting the out reach to non-OA members such as Cub Scouts to provide them with more information about what the Order of the Arrow is all about.

Their Powwow is set for this weekend and they are expecting 1,000 in attendance. By providing opportunities for non-OA members to experience what the OA is all about this will get these Cub Scouts excited to join and stay active when they get old enough and are voted in.

Check out their email blast by clicking here and find out more information about their program.
