After IL-AFLAN supporters traveled to Springfield earlier this year to advocate for renewed funding of this important veteran resource, Illinois lawmakers passed a budget with $1.4 million in funding for IL-AFLAN! The IL-AFLAN program is carried out by a network of legal aid partners across the state, including CARPLS.
In August 2017, CARPLS became the hub of this statewide civil legal aid network funded by the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation following the 2013 Access to Justice Act. Known as the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network, or IL-AFLAN, this veterans program ensures direct access to attorneys for veterans, service members, and their families across Illinois to address their civil legal needs.
Since its launch, IL-AFLAN has served well over 2,000 cases to assist veterans with gaining access to medical care, stabilizing their housing, and supporting their families.
Thank you to all who voiced their support for this essential legal aid program to continue providing access to justice for veterans and military members!
