American Excelsior was started in 1888 and will celebrate 130 years in business next year. We have seven manufacturing plants located in six states, with over 400 team members. Our Corporate Office is located in Arlington, Texas and we have two sales divisions, each accounting for approximately half of the revenue of the Company.

Our Flexible Foam Division has five manufacturing plants, which are located in: Yakima, WA; West Chicago, IL; Norwalk, Ohio; Sheboygan, WI and Arlington, TX. They each fabricate polyurethane/polyethylene foams for applications in the medical, furniture, marine, packaging and pet bedding markets. Our Sheboygan plant also has molding capabilities, with the best example being the well-known foam Cheesehead.

Our Fiber Division is comprised of plants in:  Florence, AL; Norwalk, OH and Rice Lake, WI. The core product lines in this division are; colored excelsior, evaporative cooling filter pads, poultry nesting pads, packaging pads, animal bedding, and erosion/sediment control devices made from both wood and wheat straw. Servicing our domestic clients is our strength; however, we ship excelsior products around the world for a variety of markets.

In 1906, the wood excelsior plant, in Rice Lake, was built and started operation. It was originally thought the plant had a lifespan of twenty years due to the supply of aspen. Thanks to the advancement of transportation and properly managing the forests, we are still here and going strong 111 years later. The Rice Lake location is the sole Company plant that manufactures wood excelsior. The excelsior is then shipped to the other plants for distribution or further processing. We also have the largest independently owned outdoor erosion control test facility in the United States, called the Erosion Lab, located just south of Rice Lake.

We are proud of the 150 plus team members at our plant and of being a part of the Rice Lake community. It is always our goal to make the places we live, also great places to work.

Bert's Joke of the Month
Four old men went into the pro shop after playing 18 holes of golf.
The pro asked, “Did you guys have a good round today?”
The first old guy said, “Yes, I had three riders today.”
The second old guy said, “I had my most riders ever. I had five.”
The third old guy said, “I had seven riders, the same as last time.”
The last old man said, “I beat my old record. I had 12 riders today.”
After they went into the locker room, another golfer who had heard the old guys talking about their round went to the pro and said, “I’ve been playing golf for a long time and thought I knew all the terminology of the game, but what’s a rider?”
The pro said, “A rider is when you hit the ball far enough to actually get in the golf cart and ride to it.”
