OPINION
Summer has now officially started and Finnish people have been able to enjoy unusually warm and sunny weather in Finland at this time of the year. Unlike in Finland, weather here in Florida has been more rainy than usual.

Despite the rainy weather, May was a good month for FACC. On May 17 th we had a successful Did You Know? – Business Breakfast. The theme was the future of Lake Worth. Our guest speakers were Lake Worth City Officials, Mayor Pam Triolo, Vice Mayor Andy Amoroso and City Manager Michael Bornstein. They shared many interesting facts about the city. You can read more about it from the Previous Events.

FACC has two new business members; Heitz Immigration Law and American Finnish Club. Check out their introductions below! We also have a new intern, Antti Rovio. He will be with us until November 15 th.

Enjoy the Summer!

Yours truly,
Esa Jokela
FACC President

American Finnish Club
The American Finnish Club is a cultural organization that has been in the community since the 1940’s. It has always been a place where the goal has been to promote the Finnish Culture and provide a “second home” for seasonal and yearly residents alike.
The cultural and demographic landscape of the Lake Worth area has changed significantly over the last five decades and the American Finnish Club needs to also change the way it operates in order to remain relevant and continue its mission.

The new board that stepped into office January 2018, came up with a new model for operating and is researching and working on changing to continue the following Vision:

Vision Statement:
A place for Finns and friends to gather to share mutual interests.
To accomplish the vision, we now have four focus points of mission.

Mission Statements:
1.      Promote Finnish Cultural Heritage
2.      Outreach to Finnish Community and local residents
3.      Host Cultural and Community events
4.      Provide stable finances through good business practices

Most working families do not have the unlimited time for volunteer work as our predecessors, so we are therefore interested in forming partnerships with local businesses. If you are a business owner and have a Finnish background, I hope you are as interested in saving our heritage for future generations as we are. We invite you to get involved! We are looking to start a business membership of the American Finnish Club in the fall. Benefits of the membership will be outlined at that time.

The new board is looking for people who are have ideas for activities that involve the whole family. Teens can earn community service hours for high school graduation. Check out our website or  Facebook page for up to date announcements and other information on the calendar of activities, membership meetings, and more.

If we work together, you will have the opportunity to dig into your heritage, introduce your friends to Finnish culture, and meet old and new friends who share your passion to save our cultural heritage.
