We at the Humane Society of Genesee County often hear that people believe we do not accept pit bulls, or that we euthanize animals to make space for cute, fluffy dogs. Neither of these statements is true. In fact, we take in many pit bulls and provide a safe and caring space for them until they find a great home.
Exhibit A is Maggie. She was brought into the shelter in March as a stray. Maggie tested positive for heart worm, and like so many of her breed, is a very sweet dog. She has successfully completed the heartworm treatment, has been spayed and is waiting for the right home.
Maggie is doing very well here at the Humane Society. Staff and volunteers walk her every day, and she has a prime spot in the atrium where she can watch all the activity in the front lobby. She sleeps on a bed with a blanket in air-conditioned comfort. Entering her fourth month at the Humane Society, she will be loved as one of our own until she finds a great home, whether it is tomorrow or one year from now. She, and every other animal in our care, deserves nothing less.
