Administrative Address
Dear AVA Community,

For the final month of the school year, we are focusing on kindness. In the words of Mrs. Waters:

"Acts of kindness are turning our school blue!  Each time someone is caught in the act of kindness on the 3rd floor, our students are given a blue ribbon to add to a tree, and a blue link to add to our chain of kindness. Each link adds to the ripple of kindness!"

This program has been arranged by Mrs. Waters, the Guentensberger family, and some of our 8th grade students. By turning our school blue through paper links and ribbons, we are drawing attention to a concrete symbol of an essential value. Kindness is represented in our R.E.S.P.E.C.T. acronym, as it relates to traits such as patience and compassion. Kindness seems simple enough and is easy to take for granted, but powerful things happen when we take the time notice it, honor it, and be intentional in doing it.

Many of the issues that arise in a school setting are remedied by kindness. Whether it is two friends arguing over equipment at recess, a student sitting alone in the cafeteria, or a group carelessly spreading rumors, these situations can be resolved with simple acts of kindness: letting someone else have a turn, inviting a new friend to eat at your table, or simply deciding not to repeat some unkind words.

As the school year winds down, I want to challenge all of our students, families, and staff to slow down for a moment and reflect on some easy ways that we can bring a bit of kindness into the lives of those around us. Let's be patient, compassionate, and intentional. Let's look for others in the hallways, classrooms, and parking lots whose day can be brightened with a friendly word and a smile. As we strive to finish strong this month, let's make that extra effort to spread acts of kindness as far as we can.

Kind regards,
Bruce Gordon
MS Assistant Principal

Science Innovation Day
May 21, 2018
9:00am to 3:00pm

Come join us for a fun-filled day of science innovation and creativity. Aspen View Academy learners will take their knowledge of science and create popsicle stick bridges, rocket cannons, marble roller coasters, and more. All projects will be 100% kid designed and constructed.

EGG DROP

If you would like to join the fun, here’s your opportunity. You and your learner can create a protective container for the soon to be famous Aspen View Academy Egg Drop.  This is no ordinary egg drop. Containers may NOT be made of any manufactured packing materials, including cardboard. That means you may NOT use any supplies used for shipping packages such as: cardboard, bubble wrap, tissue paper, Styrofoam peanuts, plastic containers, etc. However, you MAY use tape, and your container must have a way to open and close, so we can check the egg for breakage. Also, peanut butter or similar products are NOT allowed. Of course, parachutes are also NOT allowed. We will conduct two trials. If your raw egg survives the 20-foot fall, it will be entered in 30-foot drop. The egg or eggs that survive the 30-foot drop will win. We will provide the eggs the day of the event.

Elementary Field Day

Field day is going to look a little different this year. We wanted to give our kids and teachers the opportunity to slow down, really enjoy every station offered, and celebrate the end of the year. We will be having TWO field day events this year. There will also be a concessions table/fundraiser where students will be able to purchase snacks and drinks.

  • Kindergarten-2nd grade will be on May 23rd from 9am-Noon.
  • 3rd-5th grade will be on May 22nd, from 9:00-3:00.

K-1st grade students will be expected to bring a sack lunch the day of their event. If they would like to purchase any snacks from the concessions table, they should also bring cash.

2nd grade is the only grade that will have their lunch at their normal time, so they can bring a sack lunch or purchase from the cafeteria. If they would like to purchase any snacks from the concessions table/fund raiser, they should also bring cash.

3rd-5th grade students will be expected to bring a sack lunch the day of their event. If they would like to purchase any snacks from the concessions table/fund raiser, they should also bring cash.

Please make sure all sack lunches are nut free and can last the day outside in the shade before your child gets to them.

All students should bring plenty of water, hats, and sunscreen to last the day outside.

Middle school students will be running the majority of the stations, but there are still things we need parent assistance for! We are also in need of some easy up tents to provide shade. If you able to help, please sign up here.

For questions, please email Ms. Damm or Mrs. Alguire

Spirit Night

Save the date! Thursday, May 24 11:30 am – 9:00 pm, Baskin Robbins on the last day of school!
If there is lightning in the area during the hours of dismissal, we will move to a "lightning dismissal." This means is that students will remain in the building until the lightning passes. Here are your options for picking up students during a lightning dismissal.
  • You can park your car and bring your carpool tag to the front of the building where a staff member will be putting numbers into the system and wait there for your student. If you go with this option, please do not leave your car in the carpool line. You will need to find a spot in the parking lot or park on the street.
  • You can wait in your car for the lightning to pass, and, once that happens, all students will be dismissed.
  • If you do not know your carpool number (the number on your carpool tag), then you can come into the front office with your ID.
Friday, May 18th will the end of another great year at AVA. The celebration will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be Bounce Houses, GaGa Ball, Water Blasting Station, Craft Table and more. Thanks to AVA Student Senate for all of their help! Colorado Pizza Company, Mac N Noodles, Lolo's Mexican Food will be there if you wish to purchase dinner from food trucks. Feel free to bring a picnic dinner as well. Rita’s and Castle Rock Kettle Corn (companies owned by AVA Families) will have their yummy treats available as well!

This event is for all current and new families.

You Be You, I'll Be Me

It doesn't matter how you look.
It doesn't matter what you do.
Just do you.
I'm better than you and
You're better than me.
But just do you.
You do what you like,
I'll do what I like.
Because I'll do me,
and you do you.
I'll eat this, you'll eat that.
Feel lucky you're you,
I'll feel lucky I'm me.
