Administrative Address
With the start of the new school year quickly approaching, there is a great energy around the building. The teachers, admin, and support staff are hard at work preparing for the arrival of our students, and there is a tangible sense of positivity in these halls and classrooms. We hope that the Aspen View students and families have a similar sense of excitement as we prepare to kick off the 2018-19 school year.

One of the best things about starting a new year is the opportunity for growth. Every year we reflect and sharpen our practices as we continue our commitment to be the best school in our community. As we grow, you will notice some changes. We are pleased to welcome some new staff members and additions to the AVA team. We are offering new middle school electives, and we have even made adjustments to our starting times. As we continuously grow and change, we hope that our students also embrace a "growth mindset", an eagerness to face new challenges, develop greater skills, and move further down the path of excellence.

As Mr. Barber recently explained, there is power in the word "yet". Adding it to the end of a sentence can change our view of a situation and provide encouragement. "I don't know how to do that yet". "I don't understand this yet." But with teamwork and perseverance, we will.

Middle school students begin on Friday, and our elementary students will join them next week. We are thrilled to see them return to the building well-rested from summer and ready to tackle the new year. Aspen View Academy is excited to continue partnering with families as we guide our students to embrace change, rise to challenges, and grow into wonderful young adults.

Sincerely,
Bruce Gordon
Assistant Principal, MS

Announcements
18/19 School Start Date and Hours for ALL Students

Middle School students begin school tomorrow, August 10th. PK-5th grade students begin school on Wednesday, August 15th.

School hours will be 8:15-3:30 for ALL students. Doors will open at 7:50am. K-5 students should go to the gym from 7:50-8:00. Middle school students may go up to their locker.

PreK students may not be signed in until 8am.
Picture Day

Picture day will take place during Meet and Greets (August 9th and 10th) for students in PreK-5th grade. Middle school students will have their picture day on the first day of school (August 10th). All students should be wearing an AVA uniform. If you are new to our school and do not yet have a uniform, we will have some shirts to borrow for the picture. You should have received picture order forms in the mail. If not, you can click here for the form. We will also have a make-up picture day in October.
With the new school year, we have a new Volunteer Database. We hope it will streamline the front office check in. When you arrive at AVA to volunteer, you will now only be asked to check in at the front window with your Driver's License. The Volunteer Database is now connected to the Raptor security system. You will tell the front office if you are here visiting or volunteering. You will receive a badge to wear while in the building. Upon completion of your volunteer time you will turn your badge back into the office prior to leaving the building to be signed out.

The Raptor system will track your volunteer hours as we did before, and you will be able to log hours from home for the after school hours as well as at home volunteer hours. Each family is asked to complete 30 hours per year. If you are a single parent family, you are asked to complete 15 hours per year.

Please click on this link to pre-register yourself in the Raptor System. Each parent or family member who volunteers will also need to pre-register in the Raptor system to get credit for volunteer hours for your family. You will be asked for your Drivers License information to register as well as your family number. If you are new to AVA this year you will need to email Sheri Cahill, our Volunteer Coordinator, to receive your Family Number. You will also pick up your family number at MS Curriculum Night or Elementary Meet & Greet.

We look forward to a great 18-19 school year. Thank you in advance for all your help,

Sheri Cahill
Volunteer Coordinator
