Administrative Address
On behalf of the AVA PTO welcome to another great year at AVA. I am confident this will be our best year to date! While administration and teachers (by the way, we have the “Best of the Best”) are busy teaching our children, the AVA PTO is busy finalizing amazing plans for the upcoming year!

The PTO focuses on three areas at AVA: Fundraising, Events, and Community. We have so much planned for this year, and we need your help! We hope you can find something that interests you, and you would like to help with. You have my promise it will be FUN while helping fulfill the 30 hour (15 hours for single parent families) volunteer commitment for each family. Follow this link to explore PTO volunteer opportunities.

Fundraising is CRITICAL part of AVA’s success. Over the summer, the PTO issued a $50,000.00 check to AVA from our fundraising efforts last year, which went directly towards purchasing additional computers & technology. Specifically helping purchase additional BAK Laptops for grades 6-8 for the 1:1 program, purchasing an additional 200 300E laptops for grades K-5 to support 2:1 program, and 20 new staff laptops.

As we kickoff the 2018-2019 school year, the Administration has asked the PTO to raise funds for the AVA Library! The library needs new shelving, furniture, and of course lots and lots of BOOKS! Although today’s society is very technology driven, at AVA we value the importance of picking up and reading a book. Before this calendar year comes to an end, we have two opportunities to help benefit the library through fundraising. The first opportunity is the Fun Run (Prek-5th)/Color Battle (6th -8th) which will take place on Thursday, August 30. Students will be coming home with additional information in the days to come. Keep an eye out for a Sign Up Genius; we will be looking for volunteers to help the day of the events.

Mark your calendars for our first ever AVA Casino Night, a fun night centered around casino games, happening November 9 at Cielo in Castle Pines! Dinner will be included with a cash bar available.

We will end the school year with our 2nd Golf Tournament (back by popular demand). We are planning to hold this event in May.

In addition to fundraisers we have an exciting line up of events. We are also looking to expand our community involvement within and outside of AVA.

We look forward to working with all of you, please email [email protected] with any questions.

Sincerely,
Rachelle Nye

We are so excited to let the 7th Grade parents know that we will be going to Keystone Science School this year, on Monday, October 1, 2018-Wednesday, October 3, 2018. We will have an informational Parent Meeting about the trip on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at 6:00 PM, in the AVA Library. If you can't make this meeting, we will be giving the information and forms to students on Friday, August 31, 2018. We will also have the information and forms on Mrs. Fanning's website by Friday, August 31, 2018. We hope to see you, for the Parent Meeting, on 8/30/18 at 6:00 PM in the AVA Library.

Announcements
Tardies

We will begin to enforce our Tardy Policy in September.

Any student not seated and ready to learn by the beginning of class will be marked tardy. Students who accumulate five or more tardies in a month will lose dress of choice privileges. K-5 students who arrive after the start of school must be signed in at the Main Office by a parent or guardian. Middle school students may sign themselves in at the front office. A tardy is considered excused if the student is at an appointment, and the parent provides a signed doctor’s note.
Options for picking up students during a lightning dismissal.

  • You can park your car and bring your carpool tag to the front of the building where a staff member will be putting numbers into the system and wait there for your student. If you go with this option, please do not leave your car in the carpool line. You will need to find a spot in the parking lot or park on the street.
  • You can wait in your car for the lightning to pass, and, once that happens, all students will be dismissed.
  • If you do not know your carpool number (the number on your carpool tag), then you can come into the front office with your ID.
We are so excited to announce that our school will be participating in the Apex Fun Run this year as our major Fall fundraiser!

The Apex program will be with our students from August 21st -30th, 2018 as we raise much needed funds to help our school. Please look in your child's Thursday folder and for emails that will be sent to you as the fun run gets closer.

Apex Fun Run is an interactive leadership program that helps schools all over the country raise money, while promoting leadership, good character, and fitness. This years’ theme is Apex Strong! Students will join the Apex Squad on an exciting journey as they learn what it means to be strong as a team.

If you would like to volunteer for this fun event on August 30th please email AJ Rooney at [email protected]
Hello AVA parents!

With the year back in full swing, the art dept can use your help. We are looking for common household things that instead of throwing away, we will take and reuse. We would be grateful for the following:
  • Paper towel/ Toilet paper rolls
  • Lids and containers from yogurt/cream cheese/sour cream etc. (for paint palettes and water containers)
  • Any oversized shirts that could be used as art shirts
  • Food themed magazines

On Friday, September 7 in the AVA Cafeteria from 7:15 am -8:00 am, the AVA PTO is excited to celebrate AVA Grandparents! Students and grandparents are invited to stop by the AVA Cafeteria to enjoy a donut and a drink before school starts. Gluten-free options will also be available (please " sign up") for that option. If you have other dietary requirements, please email [email protected].

Please RSVP here, to help us ensure we have enough for everyone!

Immunizations and Exemptions

Welcome back families! I hope you all had a great summer! If your child received immunizations over break, please bring an updated form to the office for your child's records. If your child has an upcoming well-child visit where they will get their updated immunizations, I'd love a heads-up so I know to look out for those records in the future.

If you'd like to know what we have for records, you can check through the Parent Portal. Select the student, then on the left column, click on "health." This will show you the immunizations we have recorded. If anything is red, it means we do not have updated information.

If you have previously signed a non-medical exemption (religious or personal), those expire on June 30 following every school year. We will need a new exemption on file for this school year for your child to be compliant. Please take the time to fill these out as soon as possible so we can get our records updated in a timely manner. We have forms in the office, or you can find forms online at  https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/vaccine-exemptions . From here, you may either print a form (please scroll down to NON-medical exemptions) or you may submit online through CIIS (the secure portal for state immunization records). If you have any questions or concerns regarding immunizations or exemptions, please email me directly and I will be happy to help!

As we enter the 18-19 school year, Aspen View Academy will again be providing families with two great resources. The first is to help your family with transportation to and from school. We have partnered with School Pool to help you identify other AVA families within your neighborhood you can reach out to in order to create carpools to and from school.  If you do not want your information shared with other families for carpooling, please complete the School Pool OPT OUT FORM.  You have until August 31st to opt out of this program.

The second resource we provide to our families is the All School Directory available on the AVA Smart Phone App. You can search and download this app from your phone's app store. You will search Aspen View Academy. The all school directory is password protected on the app once the new directory is available. The password will be emailed to parents.  If you would like to opt out of the directory, please complete the DIRECTORY OPT OUT FORM by August 31st. You may opt out some or all your information.
