Administrative Address
At Aspen View Academy we strive to develop young scholars with strong, solid character. This is not an easy feat by any means, but it is worthy and good. Research shows that teaching character as a part of an academic program in turn results in higher academic performance, reduced conflict, improved attendance, fewer disciplinary issues, and less vandalism. Students also report that they feel safer because they know that they are in an environment where respect, trust, compassion, and honesty are all valued.

Our culture is an integral part of developing character and is noteworthy in itself. At AVA, we are creating a safe, nurturing environment for our students to take risks and thrive academically. Students, families, and staff know that when they enter the doors at AVA they are in a positive and caring environment. We are a community of individuals who strive to achieve the mission and vision of the school each and every day. Our amazing teachers are guiding students to understand how to make wise decisions, act upon them, and apply them to their lives both in and out of school. Our focus lies with our seven character traits in our R.E.S.P.E.C.T. model (Responsibility, Empowerment, Sharing, Patience, Excellence, Compassion, and Teamwork.) Although the seven listed don’t encompass everything, they are providing our students with the foundational skills and knowledge to become upstanding community members and leaders.

As we enter our last few weeks of the school year, a time that can become crazy and hectic with many events happening, I encourage you to take the time to appreciate the culture that AVA has established along with the ways your student is growing in his/her character. Neither culture nor character can happen with just the work of one person. It is a team effort, and we are so thankful for our staff, students, families, and the AVA community. We are accomplishing big things every day and are grateful to serve alongside each of you.

Community Outreach

The AVA Foundation/PTO has adopted the Castle Rock Police Department as one of our Community Outreach Partners. To show our support to the CRPD, the Foundation will be collecting snack items to make gift baskets. Baskets will be delivered to the three different shifts at the police department. Please consider donating items for the gift baskets to show our AVA appreciation and support to the CRPD.

The Foundation/PTO will start collecting items Monday, April 30, and the collection will end Tuesday, May 8th. The collection box is located in the AVA Main Lobby. For questions, please email [email protected]

Thank you for your support!
Aspen View’s Librarian, Mrs. Opfer received 94 entries from grades 1-5 for a poeticpower.com Spring 2018 Poetry Contest. While students will find out if they placed in this national contest and will be published in an anthology in the Fall, we decided to celebrate the poems by holding an AVA Poetry Contest with the submitted poems. The five poems that you will see in the newsletters over the next five weeks are the grade level winners for 1st-5th grade. Congratulations to the winners and to all the poets who participated! Keep writing!

Spring

Spring is the best.
Rain comes in Spring
You can catch drops on your tongue
It doesn’t taste like water
You can have yummy foods
You can go to the meadow and watch flowers grow
Animals come out of hibernation
There is lots of sunshine
Ladybugs, butterflies that flutter
Spring is the best ever.
