Administrative Address
On behalf of the Aspen View Academy Board of Directors (BOD), we hope the school year has started well for all of you! Over the summer, the Board met on June 23 for our annual strategic planning session and June board meeting. It was a jam-packed day, full of analysis, a comprehensive review of the 2017-18 school year, looking ahead to the 2018-19 school year, board evaluation, strategic planning, and identifying areas of improvement for the school and the Board.

One improvement area that we are committed to, includes increasing awareness and volunteer opportunities on the board and board committees. Increased participation can include attending monthly board meetings or taking an active role in a Board committee. At the moment, we have the following immediate volunteer opportunities on board committees:

  • Election Committee – 2 openings
  • Purpose & duties: Work with the board secretary to facilitate annual board elections
  • Estimated meeting frequency: 1-2x month, with the first meeting planned in October, plus helping facilitate candidate forums, tally votes, etc.
  • If interested, please email Ryan Hybarger: [email protected]
  • Uniform Committee – 1-2 openings
  • Purpose & duties: Work collaboratively with the principal, staff and committee members to ensure a comprehensive uniform policy is in place, while balancing compliance with day-to-day reality for teachers, students, & parents
  • Estimated meeting frequency: ~1x Trimester
  • If interested, please email Jonathan Nye: [email protected]
  • Policy Review & Governance (ad-hoc committee) – 2-3 openings
  • Purpose & duties: work collaboratively with board member to complete comprehensive review of existing policies, streamline and ensure comprehensive board filing cabinet, and make recommendations to the AVA Board of Directors
  • Estimated meeting frequency: 1x month through June 2019
  • If interested, please email Eric Patton: [email protected]
  • AVA Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) – 2 openings, including PTO Chair and PTO Fundraising Vice Chair
  • Attend 1-2 monthly meetings. Click here for additional information which includes volunteer needs for PTO sub-committees and all PTO events.
  • If interested, please email [email protected]

Additional highlights from the June working session include:
  • The boards commitment to host a Fall & Spring Town Hall meeting
  • Ongoing commitment to board succession planning
  • Ongoing alignment and proactive communication of the Board’s Strategic Plan
  • Continued evaluation of processes, policies to benefit students, staff, and the broader AVA community

We welcome you to join us at an upcoming board meeting. All board meetings are open to the public. The board meeting schedule can be found on the school Events calendar.

Sincerely, and on behalf of the AVA Board,

Jonathan Nye, Board President

Announcements

Some of you may be asked to sign a second technology form. Unfortunately, we realized the form needed to be updated after it was already sent it out. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We hope to see all K-5th Grade parents TONIGHT at Curriculum Night. It will take place from 6:15-7:30 pm. Click here for more detailed information.
If you are signing your student out early for any reason other than AVA sports, please be sure to be here no later than 3:15. Anytime after 3:15 is a very busy time for the classroom, office, and lobby, so we do not call into the classroom after 3:15. We appreciate you not asking us to make an exception.
Battle of the Books is a book club for 3rd-6th grades that participates in a bowl-style trivia tournament hosted by the Douglas County Libraries. Meetings will be on Tuesdays 3:45-4:45 beginning October 2nd. Click here to sign up by September 17th (be sure to click on the correct grade).
PreK would like to thank the Cub Scouts of Pack 786 and PreK parent Justin Hollingsworth for their contribution to our playground. Our new sand box, bridge and garden boxes are a great new addition to our outside play space. We couldn't have done it with out our great volunteers. Soon we will be digging worms and watching things grow and change! Many thanks!!
Since PreK parents are required to walk in and sign their student in and out each day, parking spaces numbers 1-16 (with the exception of spaces 9 & 10) are strictly for PreK parents between the hours of 8-8:30 am and again from 3:15-3:45 pm . Signs are posted as a reminder. PreK parents have been given a parking pass that is displayed on their rear view mirror. Carpool staff will now be checking for this pass. If you are observed parking your car in one of these spaces without the proper pass, you will be asked to move your car immediately. This policy is in effect during weather dismissals as well.
Box Tops for Education

This year, AVA will be participating in the Box Tops for Education™ program. The class with the most Box Tops collected will win their choice of a pizza or cupcake party.
