Proposed 3/8-cent Transportation
Sales Tax Information
On April 4 Ozark voters will decide whether or not to create a new 3/8 cent transportation sales tax for a 5-year period.  This is specifically a “Transportation Sales Tax,” and per state statute this sales tax revenue can ONLY be used to fund transportation projects.

The city has proposed several projects including the resurfacing of local streets that will touch over 19 neighborhoods and 1,000 households, capacity & widening improvements of 2-major intersections, an offer to the Ozark Special Road District (OSRD) to help fund the replacement of Riverside Bridge, sidewalks/safe routes to school construction, and greenway trail expansion.

Why the City is asking voters to consider adopting a new 3/8 cent transportation sales tax now?
  • Our Federal and State governments are offering more than $7.7M in transportation funding to the City of Ozark.  These are time sensitive funds and require a local match of approximately ($945,000).  If the City doesn’t accept these funds now the funds will be granted to other communities.  If the city doesn’t create a new revenue source for paying our required local match, existing funds will have to be taken from other line items in the general fund budget.
Without the “new” additional revenue that would be generated from this proposed transportation sales tax, the Ozark Board of Aldermen will have to re prioritize its transportation projects and budgets, reducing the city’s ability to immediately repair proposed local streets, advance our trail system, build new sidewalks/safe routes to school, or help the OSRD build a new Riverside Bridge.

So, voters of Ozark, the choice is yours.  If approved all proposed projects will move forward over the next 5-years.  If not, a year by year evaluation of available funds will determine which projects can be completed.  Please tell us what you think and VOTE, Tuesday April 4.
