From Mrs. Condon, Principal at Angel Oak Elementary School
Over the summer, staff at Angel Oak called St. John's home as we added new staff members, implemented our summer program and worked to prepare for the new school year! We thank St. John's for housing us and appreciate the hospitality! While making due at the high school, a remarkable amount of work was being completed at Angel Oak Elementary School. While it may have been inconvenient for the teachers and staff, all will tell you that it has been well worth the wait! As teachers and community members welcomed families at our Meet and Greet the evening of the 15th, everyone was amazed at the school's transformation. One of our favorite new spaces is our multi-purpose room equipped with a stage, new sound system and a floor that features our mascot, Hootie! We thank St. John's for housing us and are now happy to be in our new space!

From Mr. Benintendo, Principal at Haut Gap
The Advanced Studies Magnet - Haut Gap Middle School is off to a great start. We are working diligently to ensure that our students are academically competitive and stewards of the environment. We recently finished building our outdoor classroom, which will be used for all curriculum. Our goal is to become a micro farm that represents the long history of John's Island and we will become GAP certified in order to sell our products at the local farmer's market. Stay tuned for more exciting news!

From Dr. Fickling, Frierson Elementary School
We are truly excited to begin a new year with our Frierson family and friends. This summer, our teachers started their training with the College of Charleston in order for Frierson to become a Talent Development Academy. Our entire staff is looking forward to the training they will receive over the next 2 years to become “Gifted and Talented” teachers.
As always, our focus is to increase our students' academic and social competency. The work our teachers have begun will strengthen our staff and students. We invite you to come and visit to see the great work ahead.

St. John's Mighty Islanders Topple James Island Trojans, Bishop England and Stall High School
Did you hear? The 24 year losing streak against James Island Charter High School is OVER! Yes, our Mighty Islanders beat James Island 32 to 28 in a game that was equal parts exciting and stressful!
In the end, our players left it all out on the field, played their position with technical precision, and gave Coach Harpe his first major win! Congratulations to all of our students for this great accomplishment, and please make it a point to come out and support our athletes!
Thank you to Junior
Desiree Pritchard for her amazing photography. Desiree has been taking pictures for our yearbook and chronicling the Mighty Islanders Football games for quite some time now, and she does a fantastic job. St. John's is now on a 3 game winning streak and heads to Hannahan with the wind at their backs.

Get Involved in your School Improvement Council, PTSA
|
Each school in South Carolina has a governing body called the School Improvement Council. In general, the School Improvement Council works hand in hand with the principal to develop and implement the school improvement plan. This is a very important group that is designed to have a major say in what goes on in our schools. To learn more about School Improvement Councils visit this
website or talk to your school's principal.
Each school has a Parent Teacher Student Association as well. To belong, there is a nominal fee (usually about $5.00). When it comes to supporting our schools, the more the merrier!
