This video is a piece that we've been working on over the past month with Grade 5. It is a reflection of their trip to the United Nations in November. We challenged students to go on this experience and view the exhibits through 3 different lenses: Human Rights, Sustainability & Peace/Security. They then reflected on their experience and chose the 10 exhibits that they felt were most powerful to them. They then reflected on the exhibits through the 3 lenses and created scripts for this video. Students were heavily involved in the design and edit process as well.
This video also serves as a thank you for the FWHPS and the Charter Oak PTO who helped to fund this important experience for our 5th graders.
As you recognize Human Rights Day today-this video provides great examples of how important Human Rights are for all in order to create a better and more peaceful world.
The students reflected on the UN's mission and our work at Charter Oak and simply put it that we are helping the UN mission, because.... WE TEACH PEACE! This is the statement being said at the end of each section in 8 different languages (and English at the beginning and end), to show the importance of diversity in our world and working together to make the world more peaceful. These 8 languages are languages that are spoken at home by our 5th grade students.
The video is 12 and 1/2 minutes long and most likely will require some stop and teach moments. Students in grades 3-5 will probably be the most likely to be able to understand it in deeper meaning. Grade 2- you can decide...
Hope you enjoy!
