October Means Free Fall Baltimore

For the 11th year, the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts presents
Free Fall Baltimore presented by BGE
, a citywide celebration offering hundreds of arts & cultural events and programming throughout the month of October...all for free. Held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, area attractions and organizations showcase the importance of the arts with free concerts, dance and theater performances, festivals, lectures, workshops, art exhibitions, tours and special events.
Free Fall Baltimore was created as way to not only highlight the many cultural activities taking place in the city but also as a way for organizations to engage new audiences. With more than 70 organizations participating, residents are sure to find something new to do in October.
Free Fall Baltimore is made possible with the support of presenting sponsor BGE and additional support by The Abell Foundation, Atapco Properties, Henry and Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
“We believe that arts and culture are vital to a thriving community and to our personal well-being,” said Valencia McClure, BGE’s vice president of governmental and external affairs. ”BGE is pleased to help provide access so everyone can enjoy the wonderful cultural programs produced right here in our city.”

Managed by BOPA, the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower
presents two new exhibits: “On the Line” by Melanie Gritzka del Villar in the First Floor and Mezzanine Galleries, and “Evolve” by Stewart White in Gallery 203: The Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower Studio Resident Gallery. Both exhibits are on view Saturdays from through December 3, 2016 from 11am to 4pm.

School 33 Art Center, a facility of BOPA, hosts the
28th Annual Open Studio Tour presented by Bank of America taking place on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9, 2016. Artists throughout the city open their studio doors to visitors. Listen to some of our city’s best bands during Sound Off Live!, an audition where up-and-coming bands and musicians compete for a chance to perform at either Artscape, Light City or the Baltimore Book Festival in 2017. Bands perform in front of an audience and a panel of judges. Free and open to the public on Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 20 from 5-10pm at the Hard Rock Café.

Fall is the perfect time to shop at the
Baltimore Farmers' Market & Bazaar. Every Sunday through December 18, shoppers can browse and purchase the freshest local produce, meats, flowers and more. Plus local artisans offer handcrafted art, unique collectibles, jewelry, vintage clothing, soaps & lotions and much more. The market is located under the Jones Falls Expressway at Holliday & Saratoga streets.

In celebration of the innovation festival and conference Light City, Baltimore-based duo Andrew Bernstein and Greg St. Pierre were selected to display a light installation on the Brandenburg Gate on October 6-8 during Berlin Light Weeks®, one of Europe’s most illustrious light festivals. The work reflects on the German migration to Baltimore beginning in the 1700s, and the power of the human spirit.

Call for Artists:
Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts in collaboration with the Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Baltimore City Department of General Services seeks a professional artist or artist team to design and produce unique, site specific public artwork for the interior of the soon to be renovated, Enoch Pratt Hampden Branch.
Application deadline is November 6.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is the city's arts council, events center and film office.
BOPA is able to do all of its programs thanks to the support from a variety of public and private funders/donors.
