waukee

St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Milwaukee has welcomed as their new rector The Rev. Brad Toebben, who began his ministry with them earlier this month. The parish had been without a rector since last summer when The Rev. Steve Teague retired from full-time ministry and returned to his native North Carolina, after some nine years at St. Paul's.
Although serving at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Eugene, Oregon when he accepted the call to St. Paul's, Fr. Toebben is a mid-westerner by birth (Missouri).  Click HERE to learn more about him and the journey that brought him to St. Paul's and the Diocese of Milwaukee.  Please join E-NEWS in welcoming Fr. Toebben and in wishing St. Paul's every blessing at this joyous time of renewal.

Collars on the Corner ministry featured in
Episcopal News Service
Collars on the Corner brings prayer, spiritual connection to streets of Milwaukee  by David Paulsen
The Rev. Anthony Luckett of the nondenominational Saint Paul's Church prays in May with Darren Haywood on the corner of West Center and North 51st streets in Milwaukee. Haywood, 48, has grown used to seeing the men in collars here Saturdays and asked them to pray to stop the violence plaguing the city. Photo: David Paulsen/Episcopal News Service
[This story appeared in Episcopal News Service on June 20, 2017]
Luria Sampson had plans Saturday morning, and they didn't include prayer - not at first.
Driving east down West Center Street in Milwaukee, he was on a course for his daughter's house, his thoughts focused on her safety in a city suffering through a surge in shooting deaths. But when he slowed for the stoplight at 51st Street, an unexpected sight gently altered his morning travels.
Sampson, 59, stopped his car, and prayer found its way into his plans.
He turned to park the Pontiac Vibe next to St. Catherine's Catholic Church, exited the car and, grabbing his cane, walked up to the sidewalk where men dressed in black and wearing white clergy collars were waiting to greet him.

DCDI announces one-day format for 2017-2018 cycle
by Peggy Bean, Canon for Parishes
Diocesan Church Development Institute (DCDI) equips people to serve their congregations better.   One of our core teachings is the Action Research model where you do something and then evaluate and make changes if necessary.  We started DCDI with a Friday/Saturday weekend approach  and realized a number of people could not attend because of work schedules.  We moved to a Saturday/Sunday model which helped people since they no longer had to take Friday off but many participants have Sunday ministries they are involved in.  A change again was needed.  As we looked at schedules and the limits on people's times we knew the two day approach was asking too much especially since we also required in between reading.  With all of this in mind we have now moved to a one day session on Saturdays with online teaching at the participant's convenience.

We feel with the experiential learning on Saturday we still have opportunity to build relationships with one another which is a huge positive for the Diocese.  Participants will still learn theory and how to use congregational development tools but in an online fashion with practice during our Saturday sessions.  We are excited about this mode of learning and hope you will join us!  Questions - contact Peggy Bean   bean@diomil.org or Henry Peters  henry3@chorus.net
