English 3998E: CREATIVE WRITING  at King's 2016-2017

Looking for an opportunity to express yourself? Take the Creative Writing course at King's--English 3998E--in 2016-17! Students from all disciplines are welcome! For information, contact tkhimasi@uwo.ca.

Every Wednesday for the month of March students at King's are encouraged to drop in to the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre before the lunch hour to share the power of rhythmic drumming. King's has been working in collaboration with Participation House to introduce "Drumming Circle" to campus.

The Participation House Support Services believes that every individual can contribute to their community in a valued and meaningful way if given the proper support and encouragement. The non-profit organization provides assistance to people with physical and/or developmental disabilities. The objective is to create an inclusive community.
The "Drumming Circle" is facilitated by Sheila Horrell. Horrell has been drumming for 25 years, and now conducts workshops and drumming circles all over Southwestern Ontario. The joy and relaxation associated with making music has led to her success. Students at King's can take the opportunity to de-stress and relax in these workshops by making their own rhythm.

Students are encouraged to bring their own drums, but drums will be provided. All levels of drummers and beginners are welcome to join in on the fun! There is no cost to attend the drop-in events. The sessions run from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. beginning on March 2 and running every Wednesday until March 30.

Join the King's Communication Team for a Periscope Workshop Lunch & Learn. Bring your lunch and learn all about the new live broadcasting app on Wednesday, March 30 from 12 - 1 p.m. in DL 112. Don't forget to bring your mobile phone or tablet!

Vote for the King's Chamber Choir

King's University College Chamber Choir is nominated for the 2016 Jack Richardson London Music Awards for Best Choir/Choral group. The Chamber Choir is directed by Janet Loo from Campus Ministry. She is also a faculty member at the Don Wright Faculty of Music. The choir consists of King's students, faculty, staff and alums who have auditioned. The Choir puts on two performances a year in the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre with proceeds donated to a selected charity.

The Jack Richardson Music Awards are given in honour and recognition of the late music producer for his contributions to developing the music industry. Richardson was an advocate for the local London music community and for music education. The guest of honour for the upcoming 12th Annual Award Show is the legendary music producer's son Garth Richardson, who is also a music producer.

Winners are chosen through online voting. To support the King's Chamber Choir, online voting is open now by visiting  www.jrlma.ca.

The Award Gala is on April 17th at the London Music Hall. The show begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. The event is open to all ages and free to attend. King's University College Chamber Choir is honoured to be nominated for this award. King's offers Janet Loo and her Chamber Choir congratulations on the nomination and best of luck in the voting!

Than Clan - Death Cafe

WHEN: March 31st, Thursday, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: King's University, Wemple Building, STUDENT VITALI LOUNGE

Than Clan will be hosting it's final major event for the winter academic term on March 31st from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the Student Vitali Lounge!

Death cafes are respectful spaces for the discussion of all aspects of death, dying, and living with the conscious awareness of death. The event is based on group oriented discussion, and is simply put a place for people to share ideas, feelings, experiences, questions, concerns, and to honour death in our lives. Our aim is to increase awareness of death to help people make the most of their (finite) lives. Death cafe's are not grief groups, but rather to break the social taboo against speaking about death openly and with others.

Cake, fruit, and other sweets will also be provided for your pleasure! ALL students, friends and faculty welcomed!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Email us at: than.clan@kucsc.com
