Storytelling with music and dance is a grand holiday tradition; and The Nutcracker enchants audiences every season. This year the Symphony brings you a particular treat: a production and company of dancers from Russia, home of many of the world's greatest ballets -- from Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet to The Nutcracker itself -- as well as of spectacular dancers. These are artists whom you won't want to miss.

This December, the South Bay's only all-professional production of The Nutcracker, Ballet Stars of Moscow Company comes to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts for just 10 performances! Tchaikovsky's immortal score will once again be performed by Symphony Silicon Valley under the baton of Maestro George Daugherty. No holiday is complete without a visit to Drosselmeyer's Toyshop and the Land of Sweets, or the dazzling Dance of the Snowflakes. Come be part of the magic!

Symphony Silicon Valley is the professional symphony orchestra of San Jose. Founded in 2002, the nonprofit company has progressed rapidly from a daring idea to its present position as the greater South Bay's premiere orchestra and a notable community success story. The Symphony's artists, nationally recruited, locally resident, with an average performance tenure in San Jose of over 20 years, are recognized as among the best in the greater Bay Area. Led by an exciting roster of distinguished guest conductors on the European model, the Symphony is an anchor tenant of San Jose's magnificently restored downtown California Theatre, one of Northern California's most outstanding music halls. Symphony Silicon Valley is setting an example of an innovative business model in the arts -- market driven and financially conservative, with low overhead and the flexibility to match its programming to its support base. Besides the Orchestra's core Classics programming, the Symphony's other concerts include its Symphony Summer Pops festival, totally free and family-friendly concerts produced outdoors on San Jose State University's Tower Lawn, and ArtSPARK, its County-wide free arts exposure program for elementary students in grades 3-5. To date the program has served 86,000 students.
