President's Message
Industry Success Fueled by Powerful Savings

Jim Kurtz, President
In this issue where we celebrate a few exciting national and local recognitions we have earned by virtue of our growth, it is worth reflecting on why we have had so much success.

For one thing, we are fortunate to be working in an industry where every day we help local businesses and community organizations save real money on energy while creating jobs and contributing to a more sustainable world. While those outcomes are very motivating, we are also lucky to be participating in a growing and dynamic industry.

On July 21, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the completion of the state's largest solar project at a public school. Thanks to the array--developed by RER Energy Group (RER)--the Avon Central School District can expect to save $1.6 million in electricity costs over the next 25 years.

The 1.5MW community solar project came online near Prairie Lakes Park in Cedar Falls, Iowa, thanks to the work of a dedicated team of visionaries at Cedar Falls Utilities, the 1,200 Cedar Falls Utilities (CFU) customers who invested in the array, and the tireless efforts of RER Energy Group and Sunvestment Energy Group (SEG) to bring the project to fruition.

While seven years in business is not a long history in most industries, in the US solar market that is considered "veteran status." RER Energy Group was founded in 2009 to help organizations capture the significant financial benefits that are possible from tapping into solar energy. We work hard to advance our mission, because we know it makes a difference for so many organizations. This past year we have been honored with a number of recognitions for our growth and success in these efforts

RER Energy Group recently opened an office in Mexico City as part of its effort to better serve Mexico's up-and-coming solar industry. Solar incentives in Mexico are not as attractive as those found in the U.S., but with higher energy prices south of the border--they typically average $0.16 to $0.19 per kWh for businesses--Mexico holds significant promise for the solar industry.

This past summer, RER attended the American Power Providers Association National Conference in Phoenix, AZ.  Our week long participation was highlighted by our participation (along with dozens of other power companies and energy associations) in their annual Day of Giving.

This year RER Energy Group worked with Cedar Falls Utilities (CFU) to develop the Simple Solar solar array. Simple Solar is a community initiative that allows local customers the ability to "pre-subscribe" into the utilities' community solar project. This program is unique in the nation and provides flexibility to consumers and confidence that they will benefit from the energy savings long-term.
